I see what you did there… let me give it a go:

Does development end with a player’s 1st AFL match? Does it end with their 10th or 20th AFL guernsey?

That’s why we have line coaches.

Most 1st-4th year players, generally have massive growth, but rarely is it linear, Weits, H, etc. Some do it consecutively, like Walsh's current path, others have speedhumps, but it levels out in the end

Peak 27-28? Genrally around consistency, but always looks better for the individual when the group is collectively strong.

Not at all worried about the younger guys not getting games, they'll be working on their game to set them up for a good run at the top level. The interview Power did with Blue Abroad the other week was really good and said pretty much that, gave me a lot of faith that our player development is in good hands.

Wonder how many new players and games played this year we have ? Reckon has to be the lowest in the comp?
Hasn't helped that there are a few of them that have copped injuries.
On a brighter note we have seen some of our younger players start to own their spots in the 22. SPS, Owies, Stocker, Dow, Kennedy.
Its generally getting tougher I suspect because we are developing some depth.

Can't understand why Josh Honey isn't given a go. Uncontracted and would be looking at his options.
His options would be to work harder on his deficiencies and get more accurate in front of goal -- I doubt many AFL sides would put him on a primary list -- he hasn't exactly kicked a bucket load of goals and isn't the standout player in the one of the worst performing VFL sides -- he is way behind Crocker as a forward and even he can't get on an AFL list ..

say again?

Who comes out for Honey as a forward? Owies? Betts? Silvagni? Mckay? Martin? For a kid in the 2s kicking 4 goals in his last 2 VFL games? He’ll get his call up he’s just not ready.

As much as I want to see Honey rewarded with an opportunity if someone is willing to give him a multi-year deal at the type of coin we're unable to offer him then good luck to the lad, take it and do what's best for you and yours.

Honestly, until he proves otherwise there are a dozen or so other kids sitting on a rookie list in a similar position. Some of them make it, most don't.

To add, we've rewarded good form and ticking the boxes in the VFL. I have no doubt that it'll happen with Josh too. Just a frustrating wait and hope.

Some of the negative commentary on Murphy on here is uninformed, tiresome, disrespectful rubbish.

He ain't being gifted games and has been a solid contributor over the past couple of years and overall deserving of his spot. And the VFL players haven't been banging the door down demanding selection. Would be a nice touch and appropriate milestone to get to 300 games but these nonsensical accusations that the club would jeopardise wins, and even possibly finals, to hand games to undeserving players are simply that. Nonsensical. Get a grip. Disagree with selections all you want, but have a degree of perspective and respect.
Agreed.

I’m 27, the best players I can remember pulling on the jumper:
1. Judd
2. SOS
3. Fevola
4. Murphy
5. Cripps

Please, rewatch our most famous victories. Murphy was cataclysmic in so many of them. He’s a ****ing AFLCA MVP.

We had 13 players play on the w/end from the 2015 draft onwards.
2015: Weiters, H, MK, JSOS, *
2016: SPS, Fisher, Willo
2017: Dow, TDK (Fog as sub)
2018: Walsh, Stocker, Cottrell, Owies*

CC & DC out LTI. Kemp waiting in the wings with Honey & Carroll. +(?) Setters & LOB.

Tarrant is a huge loss for them.

Have you seen him play this year? Not the same player post his kidney issue at this stage. Seems to be also carrying an injury or maybe soreness as hasn't been at sharp as his usual self. Could do with a rest as Carlton do not play many talls in the forward line so we'll see the McKay match up as Walker I suspect will pick up Silvagni. I think Turner will go to Eddie.

The midfield battle is really interesting, we've added a bit more grunt to combat your inside mids. Have a feeling Curnow will go to Simpkin and we may play Scott on Walsh.

Should be a good game.

Trust the club?? Selection integrity has been woeful

Why is it that we never have spoken of this before this season? I want to know which media person invented this term.

How easy it is for them to get people to buy into their stuff. When you have nothing in terms of making an argument, just say 'selection integrity'.

He has agreed to a one year deal I'm told. But agree, he should look elsewhere considering the lack of opportunities.
Why the **** should a second year rookie listed player look elsewhere for opportunities. He should work as hard as possible to create opportunities in his current environment.

People think that it's a bad thing to do an apprenticeship these days. From memory Michael Tuck played 90 reserves games before his 400 senior games . Kouta played reserves for years learning to be kouta.

Sooner or later he will get his chance. He is training now to be ready to take it.

But, but, but, we're an 'old' team if you listen to some. Go Figure.

I'm a lot older, and have seen dozens of better players than Murph. They have all retired because they could no longer play football to the required level. Multiple premierships, Dual Brownlow medalists, Captain coaches of Premiership sides, members of the 'TEAM of the Century'. All retired because they are past it.

According to the above logic, they should all still be running out in the Navy Blue.

Murp WAS a very good player. 'WAS' is the operative word.

I'm mostly looking forward to yelling, "CARLTON MCKAY IS BEST MCKAY!" at all my North friends every time Harry kicks a goal.

Nah, just kidding, I don't have any North supporting friends.

Or other friends.

Screw this game

I think Tuck played about 50 in the 2's, but your point is valid. I remember watching Mil Hanna run around, blitzing the 2nds for a year or more before getting his chance.

what a ridiculous comment, he can't wait his time? who says he's ready, you? him? talk to michael barlow, james podsiadly & berto dipierdomenico, ffs....

dow, stocker, owies, kennedy, sos etc - all showing signs of great things - development? oh no! if I had things my way (insert bf coach) they'd have arrived by now..........kill me..........

Lol who’s gonna pick him upat this point in his career? He’d be mad not to take the 1 year and continue to learn in an AFL environment. He’s got awhile to go to make it as an AFL player and anyone who suggests otherwise needs to go watch the 2s a bit more in real life.If he was ready and firing he’d be pushing Owies or Fog out but he’s not so what does that tell you?
