🚫 💪🏽 to ✍🏼 1️⃣’s ℹ? 🤷🏽

Simply, I thought, in response to a question from weninrome regarding electric blue’s single emoji post, I tried to show the futility of it, commenting:

“No strength to write one’s information?” I guess

. . . just a comment on how risky it is to post information😀

It's a strange question to ask. Let me ask this - how many 4 time premiership coaches (still with the fire) have ever been available when a coaching appointment is about to be made.

I can't remember ever a coach like clarkson being available. How many 4 time premiership coaches been appointed to a new club and failed? Probably Barassi at Melbourne and the swans. Both clubs would tell you he did a great job without a decent playing list. Hardly a big sample size.

Don't get me wrong, not saying Clarkson is a must, but rather that your means for discounting him doesn't add up.

We have to also overlook a bit of baggage to make the case that Lyon is our best option. Forget the goofy uncle personna that he portrays in the media. Remember the sexual harassment allegations at freo and the way that he jumped ship on the saints mid contract negotiations.

You could easily argue that there is a much larger capacity for things to go wrong if we appointed Ross Lyon.

It's a small sample size because most either decide they aren't up for it anymore, or it's been decided for them.

Of those who go around we have Tommy Hafey, Ron Barrassi, Kevin Sheedy as 4 timers.

We have 3-timers in Malthouse, and Parkin a 3-timer and the only coach who ever got beyond 3 flags with a new/old club.

To win a flag at Carlton, let alone multiple, Clarko will have to do what's never been done before. My means for discounting Clarko go beyond that, but this is one historical fact that stands out to me, rationalize that fact away as you might attempt to.

As for risks re Lyon, you bring up valid points. No selection is guaranteed.

It’s a great story that he came back from such a debilitating injury, but I find Willo incredibly frustrating to watch. While I’d keep him rather than getting a 4th round pick for him, as is he is simply not a best 22 player.
The next coaching staff need to rein him in, and first and foremost teach him to know his limitations. I cannot remember the last time he was not caught HTB at least once in a game. He vastly overestimates his ability to burst through players, and it rarely works.
I know you have to live with occasional turnovers from guys who take the game on, but he just seems unwilling or unable to learn from his mistakes. If he plays within his means I see him as a nice depth player, especially if we have a better run with injury as a club.

Sounds like he's getting his advice from the same source as Cripps and Fisher...

I’d be trading/Delisting Newnes, Gibbons, Williamson, Newman and sorry even Ed before Fish, Dow, OBrien and SPS..

Sadly all the above players don't have any currency.

The idea of trading out Dow, SPS, Fisher or LOB without giving them a year with a new coach seems absurd to me. Move on blokes like Cottrell, Newnes, Gibbons etc who we know have a much lower ceiling.
I like Gibbons. Actually think hes one of our smarter players. Has a good footy IQ

While it always pays to have a reasonable level of scepticism with new posters claiming to have inside info, there's a tendency around here to just pile on and attack said poster's credibility until they start defending themselves aggressively, or are driven off.

Making bets to delete accounts probably wasn't the best move, but if their back story from another thread was true, it would make sense that they would back in their info and have a level of arrogance about it. Obviously not the right attitude to come in with straight off the bat, but I've seen plenty of posters come in and rub people up the wrong way at the beginning, then adjust as time goes on to be more level-headed in their approach.
Was pretty open with how he's connected and the relationships he supposedly has. Unless there was a post that I missed, which has since been deleted, perhaps a PM from a mod to ask him to pull back on the aggression might have got him back on track to being a solid contributor and potential ITK. We've allowed others to build reputations over time and to work out if their mail is accurate or not.

I have to say that very few posters that come straight in and rub posters up the wrong way have adjusted as time goes on, and trust me, we notice newbies who start off poorly.

We have a long term banned user who creates accounts constantly and big notes himself as to his contacts and his knowledge. They tend to give themselves away by referencing something that happened here before their time, or showing some intimate knowledge of another poster's history here.

On occasion, we do communicate with this type of poster and ask them to make an attempt to get along with the community and not be rude or dismissive. I'd say, almost 100% of the time, the response is not positive, because their personality type won't allow for it.

Be careful what you wish for, Jack took a long retired premiership coach for lunch a few weeks back with a “plan” to take back the club featuring a number of favourite sons and administrators. He was serious. I wish I was making this up.

Can confirm. I saw them sharing a Large Hawaiian.

Fair enough.

Be interested in how many coaches have coached two clubs without a premiership and gone on to a third club to win their first?

TerryWallet hasn't been seen since Casboult's retirement news broke.

Mods, can you please check all nearby bottle shops, fireworks vendors and emergency departments?

Lol ferris. The person i feel most relieved for(besides myself) is his manager, who doesn't have to go through the futile exercise of publicly shopping him around for a longer contract for about the 6th year in a row.

My thoughts exactly. At least give them a one yr. contract and if they aren't up to it with the new coach ... then you can let them go.

Cottrell and Newnes yes, Cottrell tries hard but skills just not close enough to AFL level to expect him to be able to bridge the gap up to what is needed.
I'm not totally convinced a shrewd coach would make better use of Gibbons that we have. I'm ok if we keep but if he was let go would also not surprise as he basically is a midfielder and we got plenty others younger we need to develop there so you cannot play all them at once.

Well written, agree.

At the time there was genuine surprise at him getting drafted, from his teammates and other connections at his school. Beyond surprise from 3 seperate player agents. In their opinion no other club was going anywhere near him. There’s no conspiracy here, he’s just not an AFL player and that’s fine.
Ben? Attitude has long been in question.

How did Ben go in the VFL this year - did he rip it up ?
I’d say no, if he had the usual suspects would’ve had it all over this board.
Athletic defender for the Bullants but was originally signed by Sydney's VFL contigent in January.

He's still pretty raw physically and tactically. Still has heaps of talent but yet to seriously apply himself.

True story?

can somebody run the numbers?
Probably not that dramatic but losing 2 34 yr olds and a 31 yr old would drop your average a fair bit.
I mean every team is likely to cut a few veterans, so it's a weird time to capture the statistics.

Wouldn’t mind 1-2 SOS era players (i.e. 80s -90s) players on the board
This was my take as well: would be great as the new head of the football subcommittee.

Anyone know the contract status on Newnes, Gibbo, Cottrell?
Out of contract.

One of those scenarios where:

- We keep pick 5 and go the draft to hopefully pick up and develop a guy with the probability that he reaches Cerra's ceiling being quite unlikely...

or

- We trade pick 5 and steak knives for Cerra

I don't trust the club enough to take pick 5 to the draft and play with probabilities.
The issue hasn't been to do with trusting the club to pick the right players. It's been the inability to develop them to their right strenghts
