SPS has not been given the right advice or is simply not taking it!

SPS is not fit enough, is far too light to play midfield and does not do the gut running nor have the desperation/applying pressure/sticking tackles when the ball is not in hand.

Carlton is like u11's when every kid has a b*tch about not playing their preferred position...

My post was about Eddie and his allegiance to Teague.
We all have our opinions on SPS.
I will say, pre draft I thought his highlights were the best I’d seen. His game v bulldogs appeared to be a watershed moment and then nothing. Did they train him to be a defender with burst fitness rather than gut running? Only the club knows. It’s a tragic waste right now

I'd rather he just keep his mouth shut about it all. There's literally no need to tell the world he turned them down, let alone to throw them under the bus at the same time.

He's preemptively making it known that whichever club he ends up at, it will be because he has genuine faith in their ability to succeed.

He'll walk into Carlton or wherever and let everyone know "Hey, Collingwood tried to get me but I wasn't remotely interested in going to a disorganised club - I'm here because I believe in all of you."

In all my years of watching sport, playing sport and coaching sport the only people who think premiership winning coaches 'just got lucky' are naive at best.

Bad coaches don't win premierships. It's that simple, good coaches can go 'out of date' sure.

A good coach can win a premiership with a mediocre list much easier than a mediocre coach can win with a good list.

A bad coach, which is what you imply when you say 'he was just lucky' cannot win a premiership. Clarkson built a team, an ethos a way of playing that it almost didn't matter who was out injured. They'd get the job done. Now he's rebuilding. If he stayed I'm sure he'd just do it again there in time.

At worst he's as good as longmuir or Hardwick overall. At worst. He's an all time great and 'just got lucky' sounds like major sour grapes.

Somewhat agree, but I wouldn't call any coach lucky to have success

Was part of a group that went back to back undefeated, playing list didn't change over those 2 years

First coach I would rate as average in gameplan, tactics and adaptability

Second coach I would rate very good in those areas

I guess the best comparisons would be Jeans and Joyce

You're kidding aren't you?

We talking about the same Neil Balme here?

Ask the real old timers what they thought of Balme as a player. Ask them about the way he carried himself.

Ask them how he portrayed and carried himself as a coach.

The Neil Balme that we know and revere today was not the same Balme that he once was.
Clarkson was a real thug on field as well. I think the argument can be a bit more nuanced. Bruce Doull shows us not to conflate onfield personality with off field.
Completely different stressors

He's employed in the media, it's part of his job lol. He isn't a coach again yet.

That's right. He also said that that Collingwood think they are more advanced than they are where as North were realistic about where they were.... RE a reset of sorts

Im really hoping that Sayers has said to Clarkson the job is yours and you can do whatever you want to rebuild the club. Fire and hire whoever you want
We have 100% trust in you
Really? Giving all the power to one man without any accountability? Probably the last thing Carlton (or any organisation for that matter) needs.

Joyce might be the only AFL premiership coach that you could (at least partially) call lucky.

We will have a problem if Ross Lyon comes in and on day 1 calls the Left Back Pocket a fat campaigner.
Can call a bloke whatever he likes if he wins a chip in year 2 as he often does.

Well, did. I think his strategy has been worked out a little bit and without the success to water down his massive f***off ego things fall apart much quicker

Massive NO to Robert Harvey. Friends seen him gambling at the TAB way too many times.
There was a rumour going around 15-20 years ago that Rob Harvey spent a lot of time at his local TAB.

The key point is whether this information is current or just feeding off a very old rumour. I’m calling bullshit and saying it is the latter. With all the online betting agencies, why would someone as high profile as rob harvey, and an assistant coach of a huge club like Collingwood, bet at a TAB when he can do it in the privacy of his own home? Why would he jeopardise a high paying job?

I’d think if it’s current there’d be photos from iPhones and stories circulating. There have been none.

You’d also think Collingwood/The AFL would have investigated and addressed it in the ten years he’s been at the club?

For clarity, when did your friend see Harvey betting at the TAB?

How quick people forget.
Ross' last year at Freo, the year he got sacked, will probably end up better than our '21 season.

RL19: 9 wins (38% win), 92%, average score of 72 - 78. From 22 games.
DT21: 8 wins (41% win), 89%, average score of 80 - 90. From 21 games.

The average score of our last 3 games against GWS has been a 96 to 50 loss. Factor that in and it becomes:

RL19: 9 wins (36% win), 92%, average score of 72 - 78.
DT21: 8 wins (41% win), 87%, average score of 78 -90.

So 1 less win overall for DT with a margin of 2 goals instead of 1 for Ross.

Those throwing up Matthews, Sheedy etc as better than Clarko. It is soooooo much harder to win a flag in the past decade than it was 20, 30, 40 years ago. More teams, better recruitment, salary cap restrictions, more focus on actual tactics. Clarko did it four times in 6 years. There has not been a better strategist in the history of the sport. Don't let the bloke punching someone in 1987 cloud your judgment here.

I feel a user name change coming :D

Nah man, I’ve had this username since like 2005 or whenever I joined figbooty. Was almost prophetic when he came back….

Same username across the plethora of Carlton forums…if I change here I’ll have to change them all and really I just can’t be bothered

Just because someone is good at one function in a collaborative effort, doesn't mean they should run the whole thing. George Lucas comes to mind

Appears a slow burn project, great tap ruckman, but 2 years in the VAFA, half a season of VFL over a young 24 year old ruck man who has been on an AFL list, knows what is required and starting to mature?

So he’s a certainty then to be picked up this draft period…..I’ll look out for which club does
