Totally agree. Time to let this procession of 'hopefully, hopefully' players pass us by and move on with the younger brigade.

Backline next year could start with:

Bews Blitz Stewart
Atkins Kolo Henry

Then you've still got Dek, Tuohy, MOC and Zuth to consider as other options back there after that. And that's before you look at someone like Stevens, who I think is really likely to put some pressure on to play back there as well, sooner rather than later.

Talia might be fine, he might come in and play decent footy. But it's just holding back more of our development in that part of the ground, when we really need to unearth long-term options for when some of the seniors back there start to hit the wall. Hendo needs to be the last veteran back-up playing lots of games in D50 for the hoops while younger options are starved of senior footy.

Good to see Henderson retire. He’s been solid for us and probably played for a couple of years longer than both he and most would have expected.

Now gives De Koning a real opportunity to get a solid amount of AFL footy in next year.

Unless de koning has put on massive amount of muscle to his frame he wont be ready next year and best we can hope is give him a taste, and no surprise about Okunbor wanting to return home.

The issue with talia is list spots.
We only have 3 senior, 1 cat a and 1 cat b rookie spot free.
I imagine we are elevating atkins and maybe close which means that goes to 1/3 plus 1 cat b spot (4 rookie slots open if brownless goes).
Obviously if we trade kreuger and clark and delist/trade CC that would be 4 senior list/3-4 rookie plus 1 CATB.
But weve still got 3 second rounders and a R3 plus any other picks we get in trades to fill those 4 spots so unless we trade up the order-2-3 lower picks for 1 high pick or we swap picks into the future we might not have a senior list spot for him.
We might leave a rookie spot open and add him in SSP over summer if he is still available and willing to be a rookie.
I do agree he would be decent insurance as injury backup for blitz for a year while any key defender we draft etc develops in the vfl.

good that Hendo has retired. Hopefully one or two more follow so we can regenerate with some youth. Kreuger good replacement but he is going and Clark also off. Need fresh meet in the team for round 1. At least 4-5 youngsters gotta push through.

Pretty sure an arrangement will be arrived at between player and club. He's cooked - and he's quite comfortable not playing on given the degenerative nature of the injury. Just needs to have terms agreed to between both parties. At least that's what I'm told.

He's related to Dangerfield isn't he? And with Danger being the AFLPA President, I think it will be well managed.

Thats true...i mean the reality is if blitz needs to ruck at stages we may have to use de koning as a kpd as with hendo and kreuger gone there isnt much other depth in that spot. Which is another reason why id like to trade in a ruck so we dont have to look at using blitz there.

I hope we do leave a spot for the mid season, would leave something to look forward too midseason draft time

SDK may be one of those blokes that never really puts on any size. His brother has had I think an extra 2 years and does not seem to have put on much size. May just have to hope Sam builds strength and rely on athleticism

Hes not getting traded because of A) his versatility which coaches love and B) he is incredibly popular within the group it wouldnt work culturally. I get why people talk about it but he wont get traded. We dont have the depth in talls to be able to trade him anyway.

Id play him on the gorilla forwards and let dek ease in on the 2nd/3rd talls while he develops. No ruck for blitz unless we are desperate.

As i said a bit depends on close and atkins..technically with the afl allowing a 4th year as rookie (rule change) they can both stay there but given our past actions (we elevate rookies to senior list when they are best 22 historically) we are likely to elevate at least one of them which reduces us to 1-2 spots (obviously if we trade other players out that changes).

I would like to leave at least one rookie spot open for midseason too.

Either kolo (i mean id have him in the 2s but im being realistic that wont happen) or Henry is going to have to play tall in the short term unless we bring another KPD in. That would have been an opening for kreuger if he stayed.

More about his muscle structure has changed but while he doesn't need to be a monster he needs to be able to hold his own.

Weight hasn't been updated since last season I reckon, as he's definitely more than 2 kegs heavier, (listed as 87kgs) compared to when he was drafted (85kgs)

17 should be high enough to get Knevitt, if indeed that’s who we might be looking at with that sort of pick.

Would like to try and move another pick into the early 20’s too if possible.

Do the numbers. We start picking in the 30s. Taheny, Jenkins, Jarvis and Hendo out. Okunbor opens up a Cat B spot. Add in possible departures of Clark, Kreuger, Constable and the number of spots available is suddenly 7+

KPD/Ruck depth is essentially Neale and SDK. I think we may need to try and trade/FA a player or two or some of our draftees may be spakfilla.
