Austin is targeting all the right types, it would appear, for very reasonable prices.
Hewett as RFA and Cerra as trade, massive ticks, immediately make our midfield magnitudes better.
Young as trade, immediately secures our KPD depth somewhat, can play the role Marchbank was supposed to play immediately, or be groomed to take over from Jones.

I'm not in the camp that we need an experienced ruckman. TDK is tracking along fine with another pre-season, Pittonet is very handy depth, Mirkov is developing. Waste of a list spot, IMO.

Nowhere near ready to be our permanent number 1 ruck man. Dont understand the push to rush him into the role.

Young is at best a depth player right now. Wouldn't be keen to give even a third rounder, fourth rounder or a pick upgrade should suffice. He has been played out of position though so not impossible he improves with us. Was hoping for a best 22 third tall option (Clurey) but we don't have much currency.

Austin has done well to fill gaps in the list. Talk of Hanrahan means we are well aware of the void on the wings and small forwards. But we really need to fill the gaps with our development and injury management now. I have high hopes for Philp, Kemp and Durdin

Do you think Young could play as a lockdown defender like a Harry petty role to allow Jones or weitering to intercept ?

He won't be coming in as back up whatsoever.
From Preliminary finalists to a bottom six team, he'd be coming in to be best 22 and i hope he succeeds!

Maybe recruited as a Marchbank replacement?

Yeah, that was the intent. He isnt the messiah of a list manager as some people here think he is.

I actually think he did a great job. All the people and players who have joined have commented on our list being in great shape. The media say it a lot too and even Clarko said our list was promising.

True that he isn't ready to dominate the competition, but at 22, approaching 23 by next season, with 20-25 games under his belt, we need to invest games into him so that he hits his prime in 2024-2025 for our three-peat.

Yep in my head we’re saying we see him as a key defender with a little flexibility and we think we have room in the 22 for him. Obviously once the season starts anything could happen.
