Interesting to see what he gets traded for. If it's for a mid round pick I would've done it. Finlayson would walk into our team given the lack of tall forwards.

I hope we have a plan for the forward line that doesn't rely on Jack Riewoldt for much longer.

Also would've gone after Dunstan given he was so cheap.

Wanted to head back to SA due to family reasons I believe (job opportunity for his wife?)

Future 3rd they just said....

youre right he would walk into the forwardline. then he would walk around it, then walk to the bench, and then to the door.

a soft, skinny, third tall type is not what we need.

I agree, but that’s ok. We need Bolton, Martin and Graham to be the mainstays of the midfield. Then any combination of the rest in support.

Prestia is the key …. if we can get something resembling a full season out of him it changes our midfield dynamic completely.

And for those suggesting Cotchin is past it. I’d argue his output has not changed much from prior years - we just noticed he was now a 15-20 possession player due to our midfield injuries, when we needed 30+ from him to pick up the slack … but he’s not that player any more and hasn’t been for 5-years.

Correct, I can see both Cotchin and Edwards playing more forward this year and then running through the midfield as impact players. Having a full preseason and extended break could make all the difference.

Pretty sure they the report was he would go to any club but deal is done so time to look elsewhere.

A 3rd tall is exactly what we need unless they do a 180 on Josh Caddy and play him in his correct position as a forward. Or play him at all. Especially with Chol out the door plus CCJ.

im getting really worried now that we've dropped the ball in trading up with our 2nd and 3rd rounders. lots of clubs are after the dogs pick and i dont see anyone else we could entice for a pick this year.
Hold your nerve our picks are worth more on draft night when all the picks have been consumed by father sons then our picks will move up 5 spots and less picks available teams will be looking for picks with future picks on the table.

So what you are saying is that our midfield is teetering on the edge of a cliff, so your solution is that we add another very expensive midfielder in that exact same age demographic so they can all eventually fall off together. Interesting

No I am saying whilst we are in the window it might be worthwhile getting say a Mitchell who is a proven ball winner. Honestly our midfield had a good run but Graham and Bolton lack consistency , Graham in particular could get 30 and the next week gets 12. Dusty is a bit the same in disposal count but he hurts them on the board. Doesn't have to be Mitchell exactly but I am saying whilst we are in that window of having a crack why not go for a proven midfielder who you know will get 25 plus per week and will fix an area of our game being able to get our hands on the ball in the middle.

Ironically, Cotch got 30+ in two of his last three games this year - for the first time since R1, 2019.

A good freshen in the paddock, a sole focus on his footy without the captaincy burden (and maybe a bit of calf blood) and I can see another couple of years. He only turns 32 next year, not 35.

no good if the clubs with picks to trade have done it by then. i dont think the dogs can wait, i dont think they get a trade window when trying to match a bid like with any normal pick.

It's not dropping the ball. If another team can offer more than what can we do. Were not going to get into a bidding war for it.

It’s only the third day

I think the club has a bit of an identify crisis at the moment. Do they truly believe they can compete for a flag next year? Would anyone be surprised if we missed the 8 again?

I've never been a believer you can half ass a flag run or a rebuild. You either fully in on one or the other. You see the Dogs and Melbourne both loading up with additional players.

If their only moves are losing Chol, CCJ, picking up Tarrant and then some 18 year old kids without fixing the midfield or forward line in the short term, it tells me they aren't serious about another flag run for 2022. The moves in the next week are going to be telling.
