I hope Nick starts on the bench when he debuts, so we get "that" moment when he runs on to the ground for the first time to an ovation. But hey, no pressure. 😄

I was there when his dad ran onto the ground for the first time, like young Nick he was well known to be a huge talent before he debuted.

Nick moves like his dad in heavy traffic but perhaps a touch smoother.

If he develops as he should and injuries don't force him out of the midfield like his old man my twilight years will be illuminated by something very special.

Football supporters aren’t rational they’re emotional they’re emotional. I like your suggestion though would have saved us from the Scharenberg, Sier, Mclarty years.

See I get that because I was emotional… When I was 10! I mean grown men being attached to 35 because the Macedonian Marvel wore it in 90 is as cringe as them wearing footy jumpers to matches.

No way. I still think of Johnny Greening when I think of 22 and 6 with Peter McKenna. Memories and emotions. We love our club, you have to remain emotional about it. Doesn’t mean you can’t be analytical and critical. On BF I feel less emotion and more analytical than in real life and matches.

I am one of those nuffies who wears a footy jumper to the footy. I am well beyond worrying my adult kids who I go with think it’s dorky. Satisfies my love for the club.

Lucky you, I think of Jason Wild and Stephen Patterson....

You really don’t. I’ve invested thousands into the club without that emotional attachment and it doesn’t make me any less a supporter. Some sort of ideological attachment to a jumper number worn by a player 5 decades ago remains cringe to me no matter how it’s justified.

The only emotional attachment I have to footy is the way it uplifts peoples lives when their team wins.

I am not saying we all feel the emotion in the same way. For you its the joy of the win the uplifts and get the juices going. Same for me but I like going for a run with a pie jumper on , going to the footy or even occasionally unleash it on the golf course to give my playing partners the shits. I like being cringe at times also

I think you'll find at 183cm he's above 6 ft. Collingwood 6'footers were traditionally shorter but just called that back in the day.
True, the Collingwood 6 footer was never 6 foot

The emotional aspect of being a footy barracker is an interesting one. I usually find people who "don't get" footy don't get it because they're trying to get an intellectual grasp of something that has a large emotional and tribal component to it.
Agreed, there is nothing wrong with Sco's attitude it's just that no one will ever convince him he is missing out on something because he is just too analytical.

Of course I am biased because I grew up in a magpie household in the '50's and '60's in Abbotsford, just up the road from Victoria Park. Every Saturday morning in the winter dad would come back from the shoe factory half day shift and mum would have is 6 long necks and sandwiches ready and he would scoop me up to march down to Vic Park,

Sitting on dad's shoulders in the outer and surrounded by his mates in my home knitted beanie and scarf I would yell my lungs out for 'Sticky fingers' and 'Bobby'. Then at quarter time we would pelt onto the ground seeking autographs and a few words with those - to my child eyes - giants. They were never to weary to 'have a chat or ruffle my hair'. My prized possession is that childhood autograph book with all their names in it and it will be buried with me.

They weren't just sportsmen, they were family and beacons to the way out of the slums and the eternal cold.

Today's 'footy' experience is pale and sterile in comparison.

Do you get similarly frustrated that Jamie Elliott wears the #5? Or that Sier wore the #36?

Or that anyone wears the multitude of numbers Gordon Coventry wore?
I don’t get frustrated, more like mild annoyance when I think about what’s happening to the 35. Jamie Elliott wearing the #5 is odd to me since the two previous wearers were Buckley and Maxwell so I associate the number with leadership but overall it’s no big deal. I actually liked the #36 on Sier it’s a shame he didn’t apply himself and live up to his potential.

More concerned aboutnumbers in soccer tbh were they’re also tied to positions and it’s taken slightly more seriously amongst fans.

Its tribal. Big magpie family.

You wear a piece of pie gear whether a polo or guernsey out in public even in non Vic or non afl states and you can be sure of at least a few "up the pies", yelled your way.

Guess I’m cringe then

If you’re an adult male wearing a footy jumper to matches then yeah you’re cringe.

I don’t find that cringe. To me that speaks more to mateship, banter and your personality.

FWIW it’s pretty easy to peg the jumper wearers on here!

Please stop JB all the bolded drivel does is highlight how little you understand of me as a person!
