Fascinating TED video.
Why mRNA technology is able to be developed so quickly now.
For decades the technology and desire was there to use the messenger RNA but as it is so fragile it has to be protected as it is delivered and transported to the cells.
Now after many years they have developed the liipid capsule to protect and deliver the extremely fragile RNA.
Developing the transport method was the hardest part. This same capsule technology can be used to deliver the m RNA for other diseases with work in place to utilise it to treat such things as muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and other vaccines etc.
Probably handy we will have our own lab in Australia.

Because Omega is last in the Greek alphabet?

And, to be clear there have been many variants identified and named thus far, most of them being monitored but of low concern:

Variant Being Monitored (VBM)
  • Alpha (B.1.1.7 and Q lineages)
  • Beta (B.1.351 and descendent lineages)
  • Gamma (P.1 and descendent lineages)
  • Epsilon (B.1.427 and B.1.429)
  • Eta (B.1.525)
  • Iota (B.1.526)
  • Kappa (B.1.617.1)
  • Lambda (C.37)
  • Mu (B.1.621, B.1.621.1)
  • Zeta (P.2)
Variant of Concern (VOC)
  • Delta (B.1.617.2 and AY lineages)
  • Omicron (B.1.1.529)

Nu was skipped because it could be confused with the word "New"
Xi was skipped because there are many people with the surname Xi

(this is a serious post just ftr)

There might be many people but there was only one that the WHO cared about lol ...

Genuine question ... what happens when we finish the Greek alphabet? There's only 24 letters in the Greek alphabet and we've burned through 13 already plus the 2 that have been deemed unusable.
They move to the ancient Egyptian alphabet.......... Cat variant, Eye variant, Sun variant.........

*may not be a genuine answer

Is there any reason why AZ has not been discussed as the booster?
The medicocracy were dead against the combo of AZ/Pfizer for the 1st 2 doses.
If there was no adverse reaction with the 1st two AZ doses it seems sensible to consider the booster with AZ.

ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) has provided the following advice to government on which vaccine variant to use as a booster:

Pfizer is recommended as a single booster dose, irrespective of the primary COVID-19 vaccine used. Although not preferred, AstraZeneca can also be used as a booster dose in the following situations:

• For individuals who have received AstraZeneca for their first two doses if there are no contraindications or precautions for use.

• If a significant adverse reaction has occurred after a previous mRNA vaccine dose which contraindicates further doses of mRNA vaccine (e.g., anaphylaxis, myocarditis).

SA has recorded three new Covid cases, two in SA residents who both attended the same event as interstate travellers.

SA Health says it believed the two men in their 50s caught the virus from an interstate traveller who was at the same school event in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.

Jay Weatherill was also present.

Contact tracers are investigating if the cases are “community transmission”, in which people become infectious from an unknown source.

Authorities say the “strong working theory” is that cases were locally acquired from interstate travellers.

There are believed to be at least two exposure sites but SA Health expects more to be announced.

The third case is a child who acquired her infection overseas and has been in quarantine since arrival.

Will Warren Tredrea be a no-show at the Nine News desk tonight over station’s new Covid-19 vaccination policy?

Channel 9 Adelaide is preparing for tonight’s news bulletin without high-profile presenter Warren Tredrea after the station introduced a new Covid-19 vaccination policy today.
The Advertiser understands weekday sports presenter Tredrea will be a no-show for tonight’s bulletin – the same day Nine introduced a double vaccination mandate for everyone on its sites nationally.

Sports journalist Tom Rehn is expected to replace Tredrea alongside newsreaders Brenton Ragless and Kate Collins.

Tredrea and Nine have both declined to comment on the situation but Tredrea, a former Port Adelaide premiership captain, is understood to be “pro choice” on Covid vaccinations.
