The starting midfield was

Grundy, Adams, Lippa and Reef v Cameron, Reef, Crisp, Sidebottom

WHE in the forward line
Nick v Elliott
Pendles v Bianco
Ginnivan v Chugg

Oh thank God for that. I don't ever want to see JDG vs Chugg. Jordy might take up the challenge!
Seriously though, it was great to see him back today.

Thanks Jen as usual, your contributions are fantastic and a regular part of my day! (days when the Pies train of course)

Now their naming drills after him. Club must love him :p I just noticed what it says, going through my footage yesterday

An indirect answer to this. I went to the last training before Christmas, where I got to meet Jen2310 which was great.

Later standing on the boundary I videoed Bolton takin the new boys through drills with a ball in dispute. Got some very good audio with it of his explanations but have struggled to put it onto our board. After a time Bolton look in my direction and immediately came towards me asking me to stop, which I did. He was pretty schoolteacher like and although a good bit older than him I did feel naughty.

He added that if I had asked he "might have said yes". I was sceptical and very tempted to fly back with " so next time should I just shout out to you from the boundary mid exercise or do you want me to come onto the ground and ask quietly". Didnt have enough smartarse to carry through.
Bolton just went down a peg with me thanks to that story. Every club knows what every other club is doing game plan wise and in the context of the original question Jen2310 has nothing to worry about.

I don’t usually get much from the training reports because they have a different focus to what I’d take, but what I am finding interesting is that we continue to train to play pure footy. The games too technical for clubs to ever allow you to play that way anymore so I find it fascinating that more work isn’t being put into playing dirty football with the attacking mindset evolving out of that.

Breaking that down we focus training for rolling mauls and how to combat that through:

1: field position (stoppage craft)
2: tackling (a fundamental but sticking them)
3: contested marking (consolidating field position)
4: crumbing setups (winning those contested ground balls I50)
5: spread from the contest

The full length ball movement drills are outdated at the top level, IMO.

Not much self-awareness from Bolton.... nobody cares what the team that finished 17th is doing.

Hi Jen! you are an absolute ledgend and a credit to the Pies for your tireless effort, thankyou from the bottom of my heart for all your reports :)
Reef must be in amazing form to be playing for both sides of that midfiled, did you mean Macrae? and if so who was in which team?

cheers :)

Get the feeling Lipinski is going to put up big stats this coming season, will be a bargain in SuperCoach

With him playing full-time midfield with us, he is my smokey to make the AA 40 player squad. I see him as a high possession accumulater / goalkicking midfielder, with his fitness and endurance. He looks to be a good runner, so l can see him getting forward to create that option inside F50.

Yes, my bad haha.

Macrae was in the second team.

Also makes his disposals count, not just kick and hope. Not a big turnover either. Usually hits targets.

Round 1 v us last year, he accumilated 26 disposals from the wing.

I have to say that I look forward to Jen's (and now Annabel's) reports almost as much as I look forward to matches in the season. Thank you to those two and also to the more intermitant contributors that add their little bit to the information in the digest that those of us who are unable to attend training compile mentally from this thread.
Not everything that appears here fits my view of what is needed, but I don't doubt that someone else gets value from the very things that interest me least. All in all, this is a terrific resource for Collingwood supporters and a credit to the efforts of the contributors.Thank you.

Do you know why a lot of the time those drills end with a kick into the 50 to an unopposed forward? Surely its better for the kicker to have to practice kicking it to the forward's advantage at least?

Although I have enjoyed seeing the intensity of match sim step up in the last few sessions from Jen's clips.

I'm expecting regular low to mid 20's possessions, with high disposal efficiency.
It would be nice to see regular 30 to 35, but if he was likely to do that, he would have been first choice each week for the doggies.

I think he'll be a good recruit for us.

I'll take mid 20's with high disposal efficiency any day but having said that incumbents always get first chance so high 20's is not beyond possibility.

Would u enjoy someone standing near u with a camera in your face as you work?
It’s a part of his job, it’s not as if there’s never any media filming training sessions, and someone standing outside the boundary with a camera phone is hardly a camera ‘in the face’.

No offence to GC, but it is funny he got told off by a guy who looks like he should be in the Wiggles.

Yep, very much look forward to the Lip plying his craft at the Pies , runs all day , finds a lot of the footy , but most importantly, he has exquisite skills , by both foot and hand , which is a high need at our club , he is what they call a deft touch player , which means quick and neat , by both mind and execution, am thinking he is a great pick up , and somewhat offsets the loss of Treloar. Onwards and Upwards Magpie Army

Still hurts.

It's a grey area this recording of conversations without permission... the bush lawyers would have a field day. Maybe BB dropped a few choice words that kiddies shouldn't hear...
