Bit like his selections. What's next, after Mayes at full forward - Lycett dropped, and Rozee into the ruck?
This is the same coach that used a young Ollie Wines as a ruck! Don't count it out.

Hey all, sorry to intrude but I have a passion for coaching & wanted to see what was going on with your group & the coaching staff. I presume this piece below was put up somewhere in this thread & it really doesn’t read great for Hinkley & the coaching staff.
Im wondering, did they replace Voss when he left? I’m also wondering who amongst the other coaches is going to challenge Hinkley when he comes up with the poor tactics he came up with v Melbourne?
Losing Voss & Schofield who are both very strong & opinionated characters would be a massive strain on the whole department & leaves the coaching group looking pretty thin.
Apologies if I’m way off he mark & tell me to fukc off if so, but Ive always had a soft spot for Port as the Crows remind me of the Eagles. Anyway good luck for the rest of the season.

Didn't replace Voss. There were rumours Camporeale knocked back the role (or at least was considered but it didn't eventuate) - I don't have any idea how true this is. Seems like a cost cutting decision, but perhaps because they'd already committed to changing coaches this season and wanted to be set to attack the crop available for 2023 - obviously headlined by Clarko.

Nobody. Its why we are where we are. Something to remember is Port fans have seen this exact situation before when we made a prelim in 2014, but then lost the guys in the box that were really helping and got left in no man's land for 5 years with a similarly thin coaching box.

The people who criticize his Contract Extension bewilder me.
How can that be considered a failure by the Board when we have made the last 2 Prelims?
I know this is the Sack Hinkley thread, but at some point in time, some acknowledgement of reality has to be considered.
To reappoint someone in to a position and then they put your orginastion into the Top 4 of that field nationally is not the failure of the appointers.
Do you honestly believe that a three-year contract with a trigger for a forth year if finals is made ONCE in that three-year period the sign of a successful and ambitious club?

Do you also believe that the above contract should have been allowed where there was already 1 year remaining on an existing contract.

Do you think it's important that all parties (coach and club) act with integrity during contract discussions, and not have one party threaten to walk to another club?

I believe the above never should have been allowed to happen and the contract lapsed after 2020, or preferably after 2017.

The issues don’t really stop with Hinkley it seems.

They don't. Many of us are extremely critical of the board, particularly Koch as its Chair, and the CEO. Those with that view (including me) want a complete clean out as the people involved have completely undermined the club's identity and, more importantly, are directly antagonistic towards members and supporters.

It'd be like appointing me as a runner - I get a stitch when my nose runs :-).

We exist to make the top four

Consecutive top four finishes and playing off in a Preliminary Final without making a single Grand Final has failure written all over it.

The failure was not sacking him after the WCE debacle in 2017. Koch baulked and stands forever condemned. Hinkley wanted to go to the Suns, the club should've driven him there. It was clear at that point he had taken us as far as he could and needed to go.

Hinkley missed finals in 2015 and 2016, then was re-signed about a month after we got destroyed in a showdown in round 20 2017.

How does he get to continue coaching here after that?

They don't answer to us so they just show disdain.

Gobsmacked he made Butters do that. Where is our apology after 10 years of failure when it counts? What a d1ickhead
That's the trouble - in the eyes of those inside the club who supposedly matter, we haven't failed - we're a club that has consistently challenged. Yes we don't often beat the best teams, but we're always striving to get better, and if we keep working hard, we'll get there in the end. And as for those doubting Thomases among our supporter base, quit your whingeing, and get behind Ken. Am I doing it right?

One of the things I hate most about the Hinkley era is his willingness to throw players under the bus when it comes to umpiring decisions.

Hodge decapitates Wingard: "Nothing in it, not his fault the goalpost was there" - Clarko

Hartlett tummytaps Hill: "He's let his teammates down and if he doesn't curb his ways he won't play. He's got in front of the group and apologised" - Ken

The media pressure mounts...

Luke Beveridge, They have to be kidding, a premiership under his belt but old man Hinkley is still here.

Beveridge could out coach Hinkley blindfolded over Skype.

Beveridge is a terrible coach, and Hinkley would be a premiership coach if we'd gotten the umpiring run in 2014/2020 that the Dogs got in 2016.

there was no-one in the media, the book makers or the supporters that ever placed port as premiership favourites at any time because the failures in the club were obvious. WE won a lot of games but never took apart genuine opposition and every body saw it and knew Port were only pretenders.

May be but at this point I would take that premiership as a Port supporter, over the turd polishing we have gotten for a decade.

no, the dogs were a genuinely hard contested team which is why they won the free's mostly because they got there first

Why then do we claim to "exist to win premierships"?

It's a pretty clearly defined pass mark if given enough time. And every single footy administrator in the history of the game has deemed that 10 years is enough time.
