Autopsy 2022 Rd 6 - Never in it. Blues disappoint in the West.

Firstly gotta look at the positive that we are 4-2, a loss against a current top 2 team tonight sits in that L column and I can accept it for what it is. The second positive is Cripps played a blinder, Saad was red hot again and Cerra provided his best performance yet I feel, which hopefully means he’s mostly over his Covid infection. TDK was also impressive and proud of his efforts tonight after Pitto went down with injury.

The negatives are obviously the focal point right now. We carry too too many passengers right now. Setters, Newman and Fisher were horrendous. The amount of effort defensively from not just these three, but a group of others made me sick. Offered nothing tonight. Then our ball movement and decision making. We dwell too much on the ball and overuse handball sometimes and catch ourselves out. Even Cripps reverted back to his superman antics from last season of just taking on everyone in the second half. Just pure frustration.

Voss needs to improve defensive transition from turnover and moving the ball from D50 to F50. More so he needs to send a rocket back up the backside of forward line and raise defensive pressure inside F50 again. The smalls did nothing tonight, granted that 2nd quarter though as it wasn’t down there.

Just an ugh type of performance. Onto next Saturday. Let’s just hope we’re hungry enough. Oh and the group will decide whether they want to be finals bound or not, got a list for it, players have shown signs of life to be there. It’s in their hands.

Any players on our list that you rate at all or have anything positive to say about their game tonight?

When i pay a membership im entitled to question the players we have and continued to recruit over the years.

The direction of paying players 900 plus a year for what can only be described as B Class players is a fair dinkum plight of where we are heading as a club.

Players as mentioned by myself and many many others are the same, not good enough. We have plenty of younger players who cant get a gig and arent even given opportunities, instead of list cloggers constantly get a game.

The team out on the park are a top 8 team only. Look at Freos, Gold Coast, Adelaide young players getting games given opportunities to try and fail regardless of results.

Winning is everything. With the players we have we wont, or are you saying you are a happy with the club and being mid table team. Id rather be in Adelaide or Freos shoes than ours.

Pre-season, reckon we were probably looking at 3-3 by end of round six. Even that would have been a decent effort.

Losses to GC and Freo sting, but 4-2 ain't too shabby...

Yeah but look at the wins and context now is disheartening, Bulldogs, Port and Tigers arent a top 8 team, we beat. Real test is Geelong, Brissy, Melb, St, Syd, that will be the challenges

Our percentage is also attrocious. Essentially means we need to win an extra game to make the 8 or 4.

If after training in the backline most of the pre season the coaches don't think kemp is a better third tall than Parks they must think he is a very very ordinary footballer. As he is lost up forward in the VFL..
Will say the same as last week we need to harden up around the edges and find some player who use the ball better and work without it ..
We are a key defender short and was disappointed with the goals and shots on goal from ruck contests in our fwd 50..
Gee Williams kicking has gone to S$$* -- he and Newman need to have a serious look at themselves - yes Newman was a cheap X Rookie and Williams was an expensive X rookie but they do some terrible things out of defence by foot and brain ..
Better luck next week but think North will see us as a chance and Goldy will monster us around the ground - we be lucky to beat Nth as We can't transition the ball and continually give it up at the 70m from home --
Also why do sides go coast to coast from kick in yet we can get it past centre -- surely this can be trained

Players who week to week go whole quarters getting 0-1 possessions, need to be replaced. Martin 2 disposals in the second half to go with his 0 in the 4th last week. Setters 0 touches in the last, Fisher 0 in the last. These performances place a huge burden on the lifters.

TDK will improve but we will struggle whilst he is our number 1.

Tonight was my first game at an interstate venue, was a good experience, i was surprised that the free kick was in our favour, at the game it seemed like they were getting lots of holding the ball calls and I thought we were denied 3 clear frees on Harry and Charlie in the 3rd.

Willoams decision making co ing out of d50 is poor and so is his disposal.

We had 11 more tackles than Freo today, yet I still watch the game and think we stink at sticking a tackle.

Our top end players busted their arse as usual, our bottom tier players need to lift.

Seen a few posters pot Saad, not sure what games they watch, but he puts his head over the ball, attacks the ball carrier and puts his body on the line each week, would like to see him tried on a wing though.

Lots of work to do.

Freo looked good, they have quite a few outs and people forget are missing one of the best players in the comp.

They are all attack first defenders. Four in the one side is too much.

Had Hawks/Port/Dogs on toast before brain fades,hit by a few KEY injuries plenty time to sort it out as expressed by coaching staff judge us at round 10.

TDK was genuinely excellent. Had the ball 17 times, which must be close to a record for him, took marks and had 15 hit outs. Nothing like his game against Witts.

Yes, at the moment Dockers look slick in their ball movement and certainly play better at home, they are a solid side

Longmuir has had 3 preasons and 2 full years to bed down a gameplan, us 1 and 6 games

The other thing, unless they win a flag in the next 2 years, unlike them, we don't have to find replacements for players such as Walters, Mundy, Colyer, Fyfe, Wilson, Lobb, Hamling, Taberner, all 29+, all of which won't be around and or improve over that period

For different reasons, I see both sides at a similar level moving forward

I was at the game and some observations:

McKay was towelled up by Pearce but I thought Charlie played well.

Our mids just bomb to packs and our smalls have gone on holidays.

Freo are a quick side and we are not.

Crippa and Cerra were very good as was Hewitt. Walsh wasted the footy a lot tonight.

Weitering was brilliant and is the best Backman in the league by the length of the Flemington straight!

They were better on the night but in saying that Pitto going down hurt us and I'll give credit to TDK who I felt toiled hard.
