Daily Mail Australia can reveal Tony Sheahan, 45, was almost four times the legal limit to drive when he hijacked Uber driver Janaka Pathirana's car at Bondi Beach, east of Sydney, just before Christmas.

Sheahan, who was represented by a Legal Aid lawyer, pleaded guilty on Monday to car theft.

He had already pleaded guilty to drink driving and unlicensed driving back in March with a view to contest the car theft charge.

Sheahan was convicted of both of those charges and released on an 18-month Conditional Release Order.

His licence - which he didn't have anyway - was disqualified for six months and he was ordered to carry an interlock device for two years should he ever bother to get one.
