I wouldn't have thought so. Can't recall a top 3-5 talent being walked for nothing, AFL wouldn't like the optics either. Best case he's played 30-40 games, proven himself and we get something of value.

Baker out of contract. Does turn 25 next year but he could add some hardness to our backline in place of Rotham or Nelson. I think a second rounder could do the trick.

Mitch Barron has been playing well in the midfield at Subi Colts he tested 7.8 seconds in the agility test at the March WA draft combine . Corey Tregenza-Cashell has been going well as a power forward. Kicked 9 off 5 games which is pretty good.

He's a great little player and super highly rated by the Tigers - they would play hardball but probably second rounder would do it. Not sure we can afford to offload a second rounder for a 25 year old though. Would love to slide him through to the PSD but doesnt happen nowadays (plus i doubt we will have the first pick)

I would be appalled if we used a second rounder to recruit Baker. He is just a scrubber of a player and his limitations would be exposed in a poor team. Can’t fault his effort but he is not a talented player.

A lot of kids these days are distancing themselves from ultra-religious older generations. In front of his parents and community he may very well be tied in with the community, but privately wanting a bit of room to breath.

Unless it comes out of his mouth, I'd be comfortable on us to take a punt if he's genuinely worthy of the pick.

Worst case is we trade him for a fortune after 2 years. 10 Vic clubs to trade with.

It was more saying we should be utilising every avenue available to us to bring talent in the door to hasten the rebuild, including using the number 1 PSD pick.

He used Dow, Baker, Zurhaar and a couple others as examples as guys we could try to poach by walking to the PSD.

Mattaes Phillipou might be worth a look by the sounds of things if Sheezle’s too much of a flight risk and we miss out on Wardlaw.

Jhye Clark looks a safe bet if you’re looking for a Andrew Brayshaw type, consistent foot soldier.

Jhye Clark would be a good pick - nothing wrong with adding someone like Andrew Brayshaw to our midfield

This kid presumably lives in a very cushy inner-south east Melbourne bubble. Making a few broad assumptions there based on him supporting Hawthorn and being Jewish, but whatever.

I just reckon that bubble, combined with the AFL’s inherent Melbourne-centricity, means that having to leave the bubble doesn’t really cross these kids’ minds.

Do you follow AFL and trading?

Because players with one year to go under contract never get traded? They do.

Players get traded a year out from free agency. Whilst under contract.

Players under contract but not getting consistent game time often ask to be traded.

What would you do with 1 year left on meh money and another team approached you and offered you a 4 year deal on much better money?

Is it hard to imagine seeing us aggressively pursuing a WA player with 1 year on a contract?
No it isn't.

Apparently did a 2 year extension in 2020 not a 1 year one as previously reported. Assume it might be a trigger for an extra year situation?

Doesn’t rule out a trade this year but does rule out a PSD pick up for you.
