I recently watched the 1990 qualifying final replay. I pondered the dream scenario of being able to select three players from that side to help get us over the line at the big dance.

I finally bit the bullet and chose Michael Christian, Peter Daicos and Darren Millane.

Have I missed obvious players to meet our current needs?

Yeah, hard to argue with those 3, I wouldn't mink McGuane

I thought maybe an in and under mid like Tony Shaw might be more of a need than a strong bullish wingman. Went with Millane as he could go forward or into the middle too.

Our current needs are a KPD, KPF and inside mid. Christian would be handy as the KPD, David Cloke could fill the KPF role and Luke Ball could be our inside mid. The others you mention are great players, but not specifically what we currently require. We haven't had a lot of good KPFs in the last 50 years other than Cloke, nor can I recall a better inside mid in our ranks other than Ball. But there are club historians and blokes who know far more about footy than me who are certain to come up with better suggestions.

MMc was such a big game player, would love him bursting through the middle

Has to be from out 1990 squad!

Would T.Shaw make the grade in the modern era? Or be a Callum Brown level player?

Milane, Daicos and G.Brown.

Michael Jordan likes this post.

As in libbas son? Not sure Libba senior makes it either. Although Jake King made it so who knows.

Callum Brown reminds me of him but anyhow.
Yeah young Libba. Tony Shaws sheer will was probably the best I’ve seen. Bucks had it but way more talent.
In saying that it’s not a dying need for us now.

We forget how good the little skipper was. He rarely wasted the pill and won plenty of it Tough and brave as they come.
I remember him standing in Pluggers leading lane in his Saints days and then gave him a go full as well. Mentally and physically tougher than anyone I can think of in my time as a Pie fan. Pants was the same but more talent.

You nailed it Domus

Brown was a better footballer than Christian but we need a KPD more

At his best, Graham Wright would also have been useful on the wing

That was a very good Essendon team we beat in '90

Chrisso is 191 and pretty slow... would he push Jeremy Howe out of the team?

I'd take Daicos, Millane and Brown.

Has to be from out 1990 squad!
Does it? I missed that bit.

We didn't have a CHF in 1990, and used Crosisca in that role in the GF. In that case I will select Christian, Millane and McGuane on a needs basis. Millane doesn't fill a specific need, but he is versatile. Daicos is too obvious a choice. Besides, two's company, three's a crowd.

Thought he was 193cm

(Close to 2 metres on tippy toes)

And he was close to 100kegs so could wrestle with Tomahawk

Love Howe - keeping him
I thought he was 195cm! I even thought of Ron McKeown as a key defender, assuming he must have been an emergency and therefore eligible. When I checked his stats, he was playing FB at only 188cm! I was intent on selecting strictly needs only players, so thought Christian could play KPP (which he couldn't really - not even back then).

Teams back then must have been full of short people and shrimps who we mistook as giants of the game. How times have changed.

Every positions players are bigger now then in 1990.
