We all know we cheated Swans for Dawson, could only do it because of the PSD threat. Don't think that would work with Rankine because North would certainly pounce.

Remember Gold Coast have the AFL on their side and we know how they manipulate things behind the scenes. Try and pull the same tactic this time and you can bet North get a phone call to put that idea to bed. North need the AFL big time and will do what their told, they will be in the Rankine market so he'll stay at GC.

We paid a 1st rounder for Dawson because he is a proven gun.

Rankine is not worth a 1st rounder!

If he wants to walk to Roos because we won't cough up a 1st rounder, so be it.

Sydney knocked back pick 17 from the Bulldogs and end up having to settle for Melbourne's future R1 pick, that's "cheating" lol.

Swindled would be a better word. What could be pick 19 or 20 when Norf get their PP for a player who was as good as equal 2nd in their B&F.

We did very well but all I'm saying is it won't work with Rankine because the AFL won't let us swindle Gold Coast who let's face it are run by the AFL.

AFL will never do us any favours, never have, never will.

Rankine isn't worth a 1st rounder!

I couldn't give a shit what the AFL think as they can't make us pay overs for him.

Players rarely don't get to the team they want to.

The club getting the player usually pay slight unders for players out of contract.

Rankine is not worth a 1st rounder.

We need to spend 1st rounders on guns not players not worthy of being 1st rounders.

We have Rachele.

Our priority is bringing in top end talent... like giving Brayshaw an offer he can't refuse.

The fascination of paying overs for the underperfoming Rankine is truly mystifying.

I also wouldn't give up a first for him....but I would trade our 1st down 4 spots and give them a second. I actually think that is quite reasonable.

I would prefer to get a gun player with pick 3 or 4.

My initial gut feel is if we're spending capital on new recruits then small forward should be the icing, not the cake, especially when we've still got big holes with our key defenders, midfield and potentially ruck stocks.

I guess at the end of the day you bring in talent wherever you can, but feels like the sorta move where we'll waste the first couple of years of him being here because the rest of the team will be bad still.

I agree. I'd be wanting elite mids first. The problem is no draftee is a guarantee.

atleast we know what were getting..

and not leaving it to hamish and the other flogs that always seem determined to pick something/someone obscure with our high picks.

Hamish always seems to nail our picks after pick 30.. taylor and soligo look like gems.

lets trade all our picks under 30 and tell hamish he only gets to pick if we have any picks after 30..

The passing up on grabbing Josh Carmichael is quickly looking like yet another complete and utter ****ing disaster by the fools running the show at the club.

Carmichael was a mid season pick, Hamish should have got that right (like he did with Parnell) lol. He also got Rachele correct so is on the improve.
