I said elsewhere on the site 4 months ago the end to their season could see them tumble out. And they're now teetering.

IF: We go 3 losses for Carlton 12 wins won't likely be enough. They have BL (Gabba), Melbourne (G), Collingwood (G). I'd say they're underdogs in all 3.
1 wins gets them to 13 wins.

IF: We give all other relevant games to the higher team at the time.

R20: Rich lose to BL.

R21: Dogs lose to Freo, Saints lose to Cats, Tigers beat Port. (assuming BL beat Carl).

Carl 48
STK 44
Rich 42
Dogs 40

R22: STK lose to BL, Dogs beat GWS, Tigers beat Hawks. (Assuming Dees beat Blues).

Carl 48
Rich 46
Dogs 44
STK 44

R23: Rich beat Ess, Dogs beat Hawks, STK lose to Swans. (assuming Coll beats Blues)

Tigers 50
Dogs 48
-------
Blues 48
STK 44

Now the thing about that is IMO the Dogs are more likely to beat Freo (docklands) and the saints have a better chance of snagging a game at Marvel v BL or Syd than Carlton do in any of their last 3 games. So if the dogs can snag Freo next week and the Tiges can beat BL at the G the same weekend, then it opens up Carlton beating one of the 3 they have left and still missing out.

IMO 0 wins from 3 and they're out. 1 from 3 is 50:50 and 2-3 from 3 is 100% in the finals.
Just did the ladder predictor and got:

Was just thinking about Nathan Buckley's AFL career.

  • Plays a season at Brisbane then moves to Collingwood. Brisbane go on to win 3 premierships, including 2 against Buckley's Collingwood.
  • Retires as a player at Collingwood in 2007. Collingwood win a flag a few years later.
  • Coaches Collingwood and doesn't win a flag. The year after he's replaced the Pies are on a 10 game winning streak, mostly with a young up and coming list.

Could he miss out on another premiership in the next few years?

It’s beautiful to see such a FIGJAM have such allergy towards team success

Long may it continue I’ll never forgive him for wiping his bloody head on a young Ling

Never forget that Buckley's last ever game as a player was Collingwood's loss to us in the 2007 prelim.

Joel Corey's smother literally ended that man's whole playing career. Iconic behaviour from Smithy.

Come to think of it wasn't Buckley's last loss as a coach also against us?

I remember Robbo said on AFL 360 that Scott and Buckley have a low-key intense rivalry. No wonder--Scott currently has three flags, and two of them were against Collingwood. Buckley has no flags and is now doing shockingly unfunny skits every Saturday night while Scott has the best winning percentage of any modern day coach and is pushing for his fourth flag. Scott has also never been implicated in a systemic racism scandal or stabbed a player in the back like Buckley did to Treloar.

I don't know why the Footy Gods hate Nathan Buckley but it cracks me up. Sometimes when Buckley says something petty about Geelong I like to remember that Trent West has a flag and he doesn't lmao.

Good to see the Tiger faithful honoring Shane Edwards' 300th game by staying away in their droves.

He is an excellent commentator - he was before he coached - and he still is now

In you what ifs - re his career - what if he had chosen Geelong - it was supposedly a 3 way race for his signatue - Cool - Geel - Nth M - but it was only a 2 way race between Magpies and Cats

And Geel thought they had him in the bag - and i can remember McCallister being interviewed - and he was worried - hadnt heard from him

Why Geel were so confident is Malcolm Blight played football with Buckleys father Ray at Woodville - so they were teammates at Woodville - so there was a connection

Plus Buckley played a round of golf down in Geel with Blight Gary Hocking and the Geel President - so they were super confident they were going to get him

Just imagine if he had joined - premierships in 92 and 93 perhaps
