Maynard was contesting a mark, took opponent high and got 2 weeks. Depends which narrative you're supporting
Watching that Maynard clip that was worth a free kick and that's it. How that was a suspension I have no idea. Against I'm going to assume the player hit was concussed and the AFL yet again acted on outcome and not merit. Would be up there with the worse suspension I have ever seen, he literally hit the ball first.

Chook lotto. Its ridiculous how an incident can be judged either as 2 weeks or none at all based on one blokes opinion

Watched it again and it's pretty clear Lloyd knocked himself out from the impact to the ground not the hit. So pretty similar to Cripps here. So that answers the question of whether Cripps will be held fully responsible for Ah Chee hitting his head afterwards.

Cripps will get 4 weeks if they follow this Maynard precedent, or none if they follow the Rioli precedent.

Holy crap the MRO and tribunal are a joke.

I don't see why it should be different. You're still contesting the ball whether you're trying to mark it or just gain possession.

You can’t tackle in a marking contest. It’s not an option. You can either contest for the mark/spoil or get roasted by your coach for pulling out.

Cripps had the option of laying a tackle, punching the ball away, going for the ball himself with arms outstretched, or staying low and laying a fair bump.

He did none of those; he jumped in the air and bumped Ah Chee to the head.

Furthermore, the AFL loves high marks and wants to preserve them as a cornerstone of our game. The bump it wants eradicated. Simples.

Except he didn't touch ah Chee's head, the ground did that.

You can’t tackle a player without the ball. It was a 50/50 contest with the ball in dispute.

The rest of those actions still result in Ah Chee being bowled over. His hip collects Ah Chee if he chooses to punch the ball. He tunnels Ah Chee if he remains low and elects to bump.

It will be disappointing to see yet another player suspended for contesting the ball.

In the video and all relevant reporting, consensus appears to be that his hip made contact with Ah Chee’s head. Moreover if Ah Chee’s head made contact with the ground due to him being unable to protect himself, as the result of unreasonable contact by Cripps, Cripps is still considered responsible for that.

Players are tackled the instant they take the ball all the time. Brayden Maynard must have been lining Neal-Bullen up for a couple of seconds before tackling him; certainly before he took possession. Had he bumped him instead of tackling him and that was the result, Maynard would be in danger of getting suspended again himself.

Cripps would not have collected Ah Chee with his hip had he not jumped in the air. Ah Chee did not leave the ground. Talk of “tunneling” Ah Chee is utter fantasy so I’ll leave that to you.

Ultimately Cripps had options and he chose to bump instead, so the outcome is on him, and that’s the way it’s adjudicated.

Im not sure why people think this is breaking news. For a few years now if you elect to bump you're responsible for the outcome

Ah Chee never controlled the ball because Cripps effected the contest. There was no opportunity to tackle.

And he absolutely left the ground as well?

The game doesn’t happen in slow motion.

Another suspension for a player contesting a 50/50 ball. Disappointing but not unexpected. Cripps isn’t the first and won’t be the last

Here is Ah Chee, with feet on the ground, who is apparently at risk of being “tunnelled” if Cripps didn’t jump high into the air first to make contact with his hip/elbow to the head.

So play the ball then. If you bump, you have to avoid getting him in the head. Not jump in the air and line him up to ensure it.

And as pictured, Ah Chee was not at risk of getting tunnelled, he was running across the ground.

I’m done with this thread. There are those that get it, and the rest…

Very, very, weak act from Cripps. Season over. If the AFL doesn’t act in this they are just not serious.

Not as bad as this, but not far off it. Perpetrator showed the same amount of courage.

Cameron got 5 - Cripps should get 3

more i watch it more i think the argument can be made for intentional

saw where the ball was and never had any intention of playing for it, lined up ah chee, tucked the shoulder in and launched to collect him high
Even Stewart's hit was graded as careless. There's no way this is being graded as intentional. Cripps is in the air to contest for the ball, he's allowed to do that. Then braces himself and turns to protect himself and clips Ah Chee. I think Carlton will argue that is reasonable contact in an aerial contest and will try and get Cripps off similar to the Rioli one.

Reality is it will be two weeks and Carlton will get it down to one so that he's there for the big game against Collingwood. Everyone can already see that's how it's going to play out.

That is so far worse then Cripps. Like so much worse, not even comparable.

I actually was at yesterdays game and was also at that GWS game so I guess I just bring a bit of biff and drama to the Gabba.

1. Ah Chee jumped too. His feet was not on the ground.
2. Cripps did not jump first.
Stop making things up yeah?

Not trying to defend Cripps. He will get 2 weeks. Just want to point out the facts.

Here's a better version:

Ah Chee was running, and extends his arms toward the footy, your clip confirms this. Running, by definition, involves a period of time in which neither foot is in contact with the ground. He did not jump high in the air, was not at any point in danger of being tunnelled.

Cripps jumps high in the air and collects him with his elbow/hip. No amount of wishful thinking is going to save Cripps.

Anyone can take a well timed screenshot. Ah Chee’s feet left the ground. It’s there on video.

I’m sure you’ll beat us with or without Cripps in round 23. You can relax.

I was at the game. It was obviously late, high and forceful. Anyone disputing this is doing the mental gymnastics cos they don’t want the ‘game to go soft’

It looked shocking live in real time and Cripps is forever a ****ing grub in my mind, despite the good guy vibes he gives off.
