There has been some discussion today about GWS giving North picks 3 & 12 for pick 1, but in this new "mega" deal we only get pick 3 off GWS for pick 1. If we are going to trade with GWS for pick 1, I would hope we do it separately as we are getting shafted royally here.

BTW I'm yet to be convinced trading pick 1 is a good idea, but the deals I've seen in this thread to date have done little to convince me.

We knocked back 8 +f1st earlier in the week. Now they want jhf + rat + rioli for the same amount.

Pick 8 and a future first either gets you JHF from North or it doesn't (latter seems to be the consensus). First it was us, now GWS roped into the mix to add assets into the equation to benefit Port.

These massive deals tend to always have one or two parties screwed and I am not sure who is getting screwed...

I think Port can do deals for Rioli and Ratagolia separately because it doesn't seem they are coughing up enough to get Rioli from West Coast and move their pick from 8 to 2. It is going to require a massive premium, a premium they obviously aren't prepared to pay. I don't think we need pick 2 as part of the JHF trade, the only reason we have been dragged into this quagmire is because Port also wants Rioli.

No matter which way you try to massage it, Port don't have the picks even based on media expectation of what JHF is worth and tbh, Port wouldn't sell a player they rated as highly as they do JHF for pick 8 and a future first from a team that expects to play finals if the shoe was on the other foot.

I understand the angst in giving up something of massive value, it is a huge gamble. It is why these type of trades aren't common, especially for contracted players.

It doesn't matter how many clubs you add to the mix, the major problem is what Port is willing to put in. What they are attempting to do is spread the pain of taking unders across multiple clubs and none of them have any reason to do it.

We can do the trade with GWS, if we want, without involving anyone else. I think the only sticking point is if we want to or not, not that we can't find the right balance of picks to get it done.
