Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

Simple, just ditch Rioli from the deal as we should have already and continue as planned.
Not sure if you’ve realised, but North and Eagles have to agree to said plan.

Clarkson?… November 1?.

Bahaha.. anyone that thinks that Clarkson isnt right this minute working behind the scenes and having his say in every little aspect of North’s current happenings is naive to say the least..

Its not like the bloke is locked up in a maximum security prison with his phone access restricted!.

Clarko will most definately be the one that makes the final decision on whether North trades JHF or not..

Clarkson will be looking at it three ways

1) Yep, if we are getting a kings ransom for him I will trade him.

If not

2) I will coach him next year and back myself to turn him around and make him stay.

And if he still wants out after that..

3) I will make sure we get a bloody good deal for him next year.

Its pretty obvious by now that Clarkson is a very shrewd operator that will do anything and everything he can to get results in his favour.

Note: this wasnt a dig at you or your comment.
Would be funny if they hold him for an extra year and deal with Adelaide next year instead. 12 months is a long time in footy.... They'll have the capacity to make a play for him.

Port are going to need to trade out a decent player to land JHF... along with Rioli & Sav.
The problem they have is the crows basically offered north two top 5 picks and pick 14 for JHF just 12 months ago.

And they rejected it.

So this, regardless of the actual value, set the price in Norths mind on exactly what JHF (2021 1st pick) is worth to them..

And so to let him go a year later as a still under contract player they are expecting, as near as possible to, the same deal they were offered 12 months ago..

Now we can all agree or disagree on this “value” that north has assigned JHF as much as we like.. but it looks like they are gonna stick to it.

Port need to find more. Trading a valuable player, either to north or someone else, seems the only way they can find that required “more”…

AFL trade period: AFL steps in to stop Port Adelaide trading two future picks in Jason Horne-Francis deal

In a big blow for the Jason Horne-Francis trade, the AFL has stepped in to veto Port Adelaide’s attempt to throw a sweetener into the deal. Here’s what the setback means.

The AFL has rejected Port Adelaide’s bid to sidestep league rules and trade future first-round and second-round picks to get Jason Horne-Francis to Alberton.
Clubs can trade multiple future selections as long as a first-round pick is not involved but the complexities of various brewing deals this fortnight led Power officials to ask if there was a way around those regulations.
The news is a setback to plans for a four-club megadeal that emerged on Friday night and would have involved the Power, North Melbourne, West Coast and Greater Western Sydney.
The Giants were set to score pick one, the Kangaroos selections two, three and possibly Port’s future first-rounder, the Eagles Nos.8 and 12, plus Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli would have arrived at the Power.
The idea was for a series of pick swaps this year and next to round out the deal, including Port Adelaide’s future second-round selection.

This development means the Power will almost certainly have to trade a player of decent value to gain an extra draft pick to unlock the deal.

GWS could also pivot to trade picks three and 12 – plus potentially a later selection as a sweetener – in return for North Melbourne’s No.1, which could be used on promising key forward Aaron Cadman.

Roos list boss Brady Rawlings has so far been adamant they expected more from Port than its pick eight and future first-round selection to broker a trade for young star Horne-Francis, last year’s top pick.

Help the Premier get pick 7, stop an avg team using future picks on a #1 draft pick 1 year in to his career.

The AFL have their priorities right.

GET:
West coast - Pick 8, Georgiades, Port Pick 33
Port - JHF, Rioli
North - Pick 2, Port F1

That’s how it gets done. Sorry Kern.
Nah… I reacon north, and clarko, will be asking just a touch more than that.. they probably want that extra future second rounder thrown in and thats why port had to beg the AFL to change the rules..

Now the AFL has said no to that idea.. it might have to be a player instead… a sinn?.. maybe a bergman?..

Looks like North, and Clarko, are getting greedy if thats the case.. but hey, he’s a contracted player.. they can do as they please..

Port just walking around throwing stuff in the trolley and now look befuddled when they arrive at the checkout.
No it's all the other clubs fault for not wanting to get rid of their players on the cheap. All the neutral, WC and North supporters are dumb!!!!

8, F1 and 33 will get it done. Rioli to the PSD. North are stupid if they don’t accept that. He will just come to us for less next year after playing a tonne of VFL in 2023.
