Society/Culture The distrust of education

It's the "facts don't care for your feelings" mob that tend to have issues with scientific facts.
Both sides do. Try discussing sex or race differences, especially in things like intelligence. Or point out that trans women retain some advantages in competitive sport, or even that the jury is out.

I take the view that science is the reality, no matter how uncomfortable. If men were on average less intelligent than women then that's no good but you have to accept reality.

Have a look at the academic qualifications of the members of Australia’s most “common sense” media network:

Andrew Bolt: Arts degree dropout
Rita Panahi: Finanace degree dropout
Cory Bernardi: Australian Institute of Sport Rowing course
Alan Jones: One year teaching course
Rowan Dean: No education beyond high school
Chris Smith: No education beyond high school
Paul Murray: No education beyond high school
Erin Molan: No education beyond high school
Shari Markson: No education beyond high school
Peter Gleeson: High School Dropout

The rest have degrees in areas the right would usually deride as “out of touch”:

Joe Hildebrand: Arts Degree
Chris Kenny: Arts Degree
Peta Credlin: Law Degree
Daisy Cousens: Arts Degree (Creative Writing)

I haven't read it but I'm going to take a wild stab that there's no criticism of any so called religious freedoms that might involve ethnic groups.

Muslim, Sikh and Jewish groups either supported the shelving of the religious “freedom” bill or said it should’ve been more focused on protecting minorities.

It was the evangelical Christian groups who were frothing at the mouth to get the right to legally sack people they disliked.

It's ok to be uneducated.

There's plenty of examples beyond that Bill of bigotry dressed up as freedom

LOL. With talk like this there's no wonder why people go on about the elites.

Why should I trust a mostly uneducated or non relevantly educated group feeding me stuff they know nothing about, but even going a step further and telling me to distrust actual experts in favour of their unqualified opinion. Bolt, Jones, Murray, Panahi etc are no more qualified than me to give opinions on any topic they aren’t a suitably qualified or experienced in. Which isn’t that much.

'The science' now says that we didn't get our Covid response right and that too many decisions were made by doctors.

But their paper isn't based on science.

Don't get me wrong, it offers a valuable opinion to add to the body of knowledge that will include many dissertations regarding the response.

But don't call it science!

I trust the consensus of people educated in the sciences (or STEM) to have the most accurate grasp of what the facts are in their fields. The grads of more subjective disciplines I would trust to have an accurate grasp of what their lecturer's opinion on that field is.

No individual with expertise in anything should be trusted 100% - remember that their were qualified GPs during covid spruiking beliefs about demon semen and other strange things. And power tends to corrupt. It's about consensus, repeat results, all that other glorious scientific method mumbo jumbo that the eggheads are into m8.

Except the scientific consensus doesn't agree with your racism or transphobia. "Intelligence" is a nonsense term in the way that you are using it. All those advantaged trans women just dominate women's sports, right?

You're proving my point by calling racism and transphobia, and the race thing was only a hypothetical! We're nowhere near being able to calmly discuss subjects like this

On trans i've listened to scientists and the truth is a lot more complicated than that. The most qualified still say there is a lot that is not yet known and that there appear to be some advantages that reside in the m2f athlete.

They speak to a trans doctor, scientist at 33:20.

That's every news show. What kind of expertise does Leigh Sales or Stan Grant bring to a discussion on climate change? Hopefully they defer to the experts.

The "hypothetical" is a very real argument used by racists describing themselves as 'race realists'. There is no reason to "calmly discuss" issues that are cut and dry racism, transphobia, and the like. That kind of soft liberal attitude is much less useful.

I didn't say they were dominating or going to dominate. It's like you're arguing with some Fox News strawman.
No, you wrote that they retain some competitive advantage. One would expect such an advantage to result in winning competitions.

As host of Q&A Grant would bring on experts on climate change to discuss it. That show (before he hosted it) had the classic exchange between scientist Brian Cox and idiot Malcolm Roberts over climate change, the ultimate “person who’s smart” vs “total moron” segment.

One report involving basically no economic or epidemiological evidence doesn't constitute "the science". Was a single scientist even on the investigation panel?

But yes the report did make a few decent recommendations based on science, other recommendations were quite lacking in detailed evidence to back them up and many others were based on other considerations and judgements removed from a process of scientific enquiry (but valuable in their own way).

Differences between groups are also discussed in science books. You're referring to racist organisations who misuse information for their own purposes. That doesn't mean the science isn't valid.

Some competitive advantage doesn't mean they're going to dominate all sports. Trans athletes do test better in some areas, as mentioned in that video

Anti climate change
Anti vaccine
Anti evolution

There’s a definite link between being right wing and science denial.

I’ve heard right wingers bash universities (“all unis are about these days is brainwashing with a Marxist agenda”) in order to de-legitimise them.

Covid vaccine's were a total shambles. pharma lied, government lied, data misreported, injuries + more.

Evolution is a theory

There is a definite link between left wing and people can't think beyond the word science

The Review Was based on substantial research,
data analysis, policy assessment and
extensive consultations led by the e61
Institute. It draws heavily on evidence
from across government, and the
private and community sectors. It is
also informed by the growing body
of national and international research
on the impact of COVID-19 and the
response to it
