Losers:

Maybe Freo - just not sure they maximised that hand of picks in the 30's and 40's. But they have a fairly stacked list so I get it.
Why they used a senior list spot to draft Wagner is astonishing. Could have picked him up as a rookie or sup.

Sydney doesn't feel like a winning draft as we didn't address a single need.
What did you identify are your needs?

Key forward or ruck/forward I assume to replace Bud, be healthier than Reid and possibly upgrade on the fringe guys. A little surprised you didn't take a flier on a late one, but there's still the rookie draft if you have room. And you weren't goin to get a great one.

I really like Mitchell for wing depth. I think you can find room for 3 smalls as Errol pushed up the ground and Konstanty is a beauty. Those 2 picks make a lot of sense to me.

Trading out of the Weddle pick when he could've been a Rampe replacement or a big bodied defensive mid does seem strange, even if it was great value. Picking a small back flanker definitely not what I expected from that trade back.

If anything I'm surprised you talked up trading your picks, then didn't trade either of them for future first round picks to improve your hand next year and chase a gun tall forward.

Maybe the offers for future firsts never came as every team is holding cards for next year.

Winners based on talent rankings: Eagles, Dons, Saints, Carlton, North.
Losers based on talent: Swans, Tigers, Port.
Winners based on list needs: Eagles, Saints, Dogs.
Losers based on list needs: Dons? still no big bodied mid?
We got Will Setterfield in the trade period to be fair. I imagine we go for a big fish in this position next year, especially if Parish leaves.

North Melbourne, Brisbane, Hawthorn, West Coast, St Kilda, Essendon and Carlton would have to be pretty happy with their draft haul.

Might be a one year deal? Or might have asked for 2 to go west?
For either of those options, could it not have been done via a rookie spot?

I suppose with a senior list spot he gets 2 years, but that's a risk on the club that they perhaps didn't need to take.

Carlton would have to be thrilled with their haul.

As for us, trading out 40 and 43 for 26 perhaps wasn't a great move in hindsight, given all the talent that slipped through. Plus the bloke we drafted won't see any action next year.
Had he not done his knee (twice) he might have gone top 10. Worth a couple of picks in the 40’s I reckon.

Perhaps in psd tomorrow. D'aolia and szybkowski still there as inside competitive types.
Teal looks a dodoro type as well but might be one who can make the transition

We'll give setterfield his role he can excel in. Hopefully does a brodie and fills a need

Yeah I know, but we've already got an injury prone forward that we drafted in the second round in Comben, and he's played 1 game in 3 years. He looks like a decent player but just can't get a clean run at it.
We've taken a risk tonight, I hope it pays off.

The three greatest needs for the Swans agreed by majority of fans would be

Big bodied/tall inside mid.
Tall KPD capable of taking on the 200cm forwards
Ruck

Dont really rate setterfield at all. If dons get D'Aloia or Syzbkowski then I believe they've addressed it.

Sheezel and george will be handfuls for defences.
Wardlaw added to LDU, simpkin, thomas, phillips and powell is a strong midfield.

Time to complete the spine now.

Really liked Carlton’s draft. Hollands one of the best two way runners in the draft class and Cowan has the potential to be one of the damaging. If Lemmey can pull it altogether he has a tonne of upside, you don’t lose top ten talent overnight. All of the players they picked compliment their list.

I don't think that's a bad thing.

You need to get games in to Phillips and Powell, as well as giving Wardlaw and Sheezel a taste. And Goater, Curtis Taylor, Flynn Perez and the list goes on.

Whilst not getting too young, finding roles for a couple of veterans you grab in the rookie/SPP and rewarding some of the middle aged guys who have to become the leaders to steer this next generation.

George's gap year could be a blessing in disguise.

The biggest downside for North has to be not getting another tall forward. Obviously not the draft for it but I reckon Gruzewski would've made a lovely 3rd tall next to Larkey and Comben/CCJ. Or down back to take over from Corr alongside the McKay/Logue pairing that will be very solid for a long time.
