i felt like watching one of the games from this year...so i go to kayo and i click ...and i click ...and then i click..... lots and lots of nice big big graphics and no frigging idea where the games are... is kayo for kiddies?

so i go to the afl on demand, which i remember to be more straight-forward....no way, they changed to up the graphics and i got 5 games in front of me but i have no idea to look at others

cant we have just simple drop down menus....simple text orientated drop down menus....with no graphics and really cool pics and all that trendy stuff....geez

I am unhappy about World Vision being splashed in orange around the fringes of my page. It is not a charity I like. Thankfully the borders have vanished and taken World Vision with them. Hopefully this is last time they'll be seen in here.

I prefer the call to arms in Ukraine ad. I never did to fight in a war. Why not start as a mercenary in someone else's?
I have Russian women looking for a good time splashed around the fringes of my page.

That is so sad. I can’t imagine anyone bonding over Carlton. And still not over it three months later. Poor diddums.

I’m still not over the 1970 and 1979 GFs. May Carlton fans suffer for eternity.

I feel sorry for his "me and dad"..... I never understood why javed copped such a hard time from the cricketing press...

I find soccer celebrations as boring as the game itself.

The 'highlights' on TV mostly show some sniffling an whiny-looking character doing that mad dash towards the boundary, arms outstretched, soaking in his own glory while his teammates try and catch him.

I’ve tried really hard to get enthused about the World Cup.

But I just can’t.☹️

I didn't even try to get excited by this one, which was built on the bodies of slave labour.

But I've tried in the past, I really have, and I can only conclude that billions of people around the world are easily amused.

The real crime is you can't relieve the boredom by getting drunk.

Can't get drunk, and likely to be executed if you wear your fave rainbow coloured jumper.

Travesty.

I'm not sure I can claim to have 'zero' interest in the World Cup.

The English have just been dislodged from the competition, and that does pleasing things for my soul.

Your knowledge of the world cup far outstrips mine. I have no idea who is playing and in fact thought that surely by now it was finished. Didn't know Australia had got so far, totally missed their game against Argentina but wasn't surprised they got knocked out of the competition. Didn't know the English were still in the competition, which is no longer relevant anyway because you tell me they are not. I was vaguely interested in the LGBTQI+ situation and all the hysteria over rainbow colour bans as well as the beer bans at games, but have next to zero knowledge of fixtures or results.

I used to go to watch soccer games at a Olympic Park as a teenager with my Yugoslavian friend and parents. My only real memory were the fights between rival ethnic groups which sometimes spilled on to the pitch, bringing into play the mounted police horses who would sometimes be led a merry dance around the ground by fleet footed but not too inebriated supporters. Sometimes my friend and I would go alone and climb the wall of the next door velodrome where boxing events were held - we saw Lionel Rose box there one night.

Then there was the time that a 'best of' AFL team played the Victorian 2nds soccer side and were soundly beaten despite modified rules allowing the AFL boys to bounce the ball. Sam Kekovich played goalie and did an admirable job mimicking an AFL full back bouncing the ball out of danger with runs up the ground, only more often than not the ball was whisked quickly back the other way resulting in a score to the 2nds team due to Sam being engaged anywhere other than where he was meant to be. It was on one of these runs that he unfortunately did an ACL and was unavailable for the coming year. Never again was a similar competition attempted.

However, there is no shortage in this country of people who feel the need at all times to be supporting and watching a team playing in a sporting competition, and there are ethnic groups for whom our AFL and rugby must seem an absolute bore compared to the joy of following the fortunes of their former country in a major soccer event. Good luck to them but I am happy to view sport from a single window, my only interest being AFL men's football, and more specifically Collingwood. The rest is all just background noise which I just switch off and ignore.

I didn't even see or hear the news to learn of England's fate.

I felt the pain of its people, delivered by the cosmos into my soul, and I just smiled.

Great memory about Lionel.

England should have won that match. Terrible defending to concede the second goal and a howler miss for the equaliser.

Typical England.

Maybe there was some justification?
well there's always justification. It makes me laugh when Ginnivan uses a 50 metre kick to kick a goal from the goal square and it's deemed disrespectful. From what I've seen. All the soccer cheat. They are forever falling over for free kicks....and no one says boo..... compare that to ginnivan staging...

And messi handled the ball deliberately and doesnt get carded because he's a superstar...

There are too many unsporting things going on to actually report them all....but I accept that half the planet is hanging on it all....this beautiful game.

Biased reffing is not just with Soccer. you should see the travels and fouls the superstars get away with in the NBA as apart from the the "normal" players. Apparently the reasoning is that the crowds come to watch the stars and should not be fouled out... spare me .

I'll need to scroll back to the part where I was saying basketball was a beautiful game. At any rate, I dont get the same feeling with basketball. It's more like 90% boredom and huge players putting a ball into a hoop a few feet above them, followed by the last few minutes where there's some interest as to which team will win.

On the other hand, soccer is full of unlikeable people for a whole variety of reasons. I just dont equate beauty with it. It also suffers from one of the main problems of any game invented by the pommes. The refs just have too much impact. People complain about the AFL. Soccer is more like throwing a dice when it comes to scoring.

But as I said, there are always things to watch. Players attempts to fake fouls being one of my favourites. I normally watch a 10 min version of a game and I miss out on all the stuff we had in AFL a season or two ago....backwards...side to side...I dont rational person sees beauty in that. Recipe for turning the TV off and going to bed

Soccer is basically unwatchable with the continual attempts to con the ref. And the fact that they have a video review system that can clearly show these cons, but refuse to do anything about it, just makes it more frustrating to watch.
Simple fix. Yellow card for a con job. Red card for a con job in the box.
How much better a game could it be if such a system was implemented? Guarantee there would be no yellow/reds after 6 months of this being bought in.

i dont know enough to agree or disagree. From my side, it would make the game less watchable because the acting is probably one of the bits that i find most interesting. if you have the age, you can read these excuses for the bad sportsmanship. Evidently, the bloke writing it is a pomme and one of his excuses is that everyone does it. Surprisingly, he doesn't say that the bad sportsmanship makes the game more beautiful...I'll leave that to that perfectly crafted grey hair guy on the sbs coverage who can wax lyrical about anything about the game. Afl commentators could learn a lesson or two
