Could be wrong, but I think for males it's 65 and females is 60. I think the government is trying to change that though.

I think Marcus Ashcroft was about 64 when we won the 2003 premiership.

This is a very ambiguous question. What do you mean by retirement? Is it simply when a person's football career ends? If so then I imagine the average age would be 22 or so, because so many football careers are over before they even start. I think I read somewhere that the average length of a football career is about 30 games (don't quote me on that).

Or does retirement mean when someone voluntarily stops playing? But this is not clear cut. If Hooper hadn't returned would he count as a retiree? What about someone that gets delisted and then decides to retire instead of nominating for the draft - do they count as a retiree? Often it is not clear whether a player retired or was pushed, and sometimes it is a bit of both. If this is what you are after, I doubt there would be any statistics on it because there is so much guess work involved.

I think you would have to nominate a time period to calculate this or you would have to work out the average age based on all the players to ever have played the game.
I think 2spek wants to know the average age of players when they have ceased to play afl football. Not too many have the opportunity to declare that they are retiring on their own will (like Voss or Lynch). In the case of working that average out you would have to conduct some intensive research unless the afl have the stats kept somewhere (and probably do).
Guessing, i would say that average age of a retiring/sacked/injured and cannot play no more, would be about 24 or 25.
