It's obvious Voss is one of the weakest and most pathetic leaders in AFL history. But Craig McRae is clearly one of the best motivators, best tacticians in the game right now. Why on earth was Voss ever captain of Brisbane? How many more flags would Brisbane have won if McRae was captain as he obviously should of been? How was such a pea heart ever anywhere near captaincy?

= NFI.

I’m sure Voss was a decent captain but the myth of the lionised super leader in the AFL is almost always just that - a myth. A case of the captain’s influence being hugely overrated.

Voss was in charge of a super team with multiple champions and generals on every line. He didn’t build that list.

Selwood is another one. He walked into one of the most professional, supportive, well-run clubs in history and is renowned as some kind of mythical super leader. He never had to deal with the slightest bit of adversity in his career. I’m sure he was a decent captain but Geelong had masters of their craft everywhere, on and off the field. It’s not a coincidence.

Many truly great leaders never even get remembered or mentioned because they’re leading shit teams and working like crazy to hold them together against all odds, when the whole club is a shambles.

Aaaaand another terrible Main Bored thread lands in the Bay 😐

There's no easy answer really
I mean, a Premiership player from that Brisbane side could conceivably become a Premiership coach, you'd think.
Do the Main Board mods move these here because they masturbated over them and then they are ashamed of what they've done so they put them in another part of Bigfooty so they don't have to live with the shame of what they've done?

I think they see the MB as the Good Neighborhood. Any time there's a problem thread on there, they put it in the back of the car, drive over to us (the Bad Neighborhood) kick it out of the car and drive off.

How rude.

We might be a lot of things but a bad neighbourhood. Well I never. *clutches pearls.

Anyway on Vossy.

Leading a side is different from being able to be strategically minded.

Leaders generally lead because people want to follow them. Coaches coach because they are good strategically. Just because you can lead people doesn't mean you're able to be a mastermind. Leading players is only a small portion of the pie as a coach. You've got to be able to read play, change gameplans on the fly and basically be able to move the chess pieces in the right order.

Anyway you get the point. Vossy is a lot of things (including crazy don't forget that) but a good strategic he is not

It's frustrating really. On the MB you constantly hear "send it to the Bay", yet I find the Bay actually has the best football content on this site. We know what we're talking about (well, mostly) but don't take the whole thing too seriously, unlike those dull, boring campaigners on the MB.

Exactly. And you can be a bit ruder on the Bay

So you’re saying James Hird was a shit captain as well.
