Big deal if we aren't considered the best or 2nd best team in June. September is when we want to be in that category.

Recency bias and fact we got a shellacking against Collingwood at the MCG and Melbourne beat them at MCG, you know, where the GF is played, will always have a big impact on people's thinking.

Because making the statement that Melbourne have been a top 2 side when Brisbane was clearly recognised as the second best side up until the last 3 or so weeks is idiotic.

I was just under the assumption that everyone had figured out by now that Brisbane are a joke and just ignores them.

Our percentage is lower than Geelong, Melbourne and Collingwood because we’ve had to play 8 of 13 games (62%) against the current top 8, whereas these other sides have played the following against them:

Carlton - 7 of 13 games (54%)
Hawthorn - 7 of 13 games (54%)
Collingwood - 6 of 13 games (46%)
Brisbane - 6 of 12 games (50%)
Western Bulldogs - 6 of 13 games (46%)
Gold Coast - 6 of 12 games (50%)
Richmond - 6 of 13 games (46%)
GWS - 6 of 13 games (46%)
North Melbourne - 6 of 13 games (46%)
Melbourne - 5 of 13 games (38%)
St Kilda - 5 of 12 games (42%)
Essendon - 5 of 13 games (38%)
Adelaide - 5 of 13 games (38%)
Fremantle - 5 of 13 games (38%)
West Coast - 5 of 13 games (38%)
Geelong - 4 of 12 games (25%)
Sydney - 4 of 12 games (25%)

The only reason why people rate Collingwood and Melbourne higher than us is because they play defensive football and when you limit scoring your percentage will always be higher - but not one team in the competition is in the premiership quadrant of >100 points for, <85 points against. Subtracting our game against Collingwood would have us at 98.5 points for and 77.5 points against.

We have literally had the toughest fixture in the competition, and our position is completely based on merit. We aren’t the finished product but we are getting better.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I feel like there is a very similar statement certain people would make about why a Ken Hinkley coached Port wasn't considered in the top 2 either

Brisbane are a very different team away from the Gabba. They are 5-0 at home and 3-4 on the road and that includes beating WCE in Perth and North at Mt Barker, which aren't great feats in 2023.

Yes but the comment was on the whole year. They haven't been 3-4 on the road the whole year.

Between round 2 and round 10 Brisbane went 8-1 beating both Collingwood and Melbourne. There is no way you can argue Melbourne's 6-3 with a 5 point lucky win against the Suns in that mix was on par.

I'm not arguing Brisbane look like a threat now, they just lost to Hawthorn.

True but 5 of those wins were at the Gabba + wins on the road vs WCE and North, not that impressive a feat in 2023, and Carlton Rd 8 at the Docklands who had started their slump.

Sure they should have been highly rated, but people who have kept an eye on Brisbane the last few years whilst they have been pushing the top 4, put a caveat on them because of their average form away from the Gabba, when the heat is on. Their poor MCG record is stuck in a lot of people's mind, including mine. Its why Fagan always gets asked about it a lot and tries to come up with a different reply after every loss there.

I'm still completely gobsmacked Taylor Walker got a guard of honour for 250 games.

I especially liked how the Crows threw the game against Footscray just so Tay Tay could play no. 250 at home against the worst team in the last 100 years

They rate 10 goals higher than 4 points

No surprises there

I reckon they rate Collingwood more than us because they beat us by 70 odd points.

Look at all of our VFL cups. Nearly as many as Port Adelaide in their state competition.

And every single one of them were won last century........

We were a totally different side in rounds 1-3 than we are now.
North Melbourne smashed Port by 92 points in round 8, 2004. Early losses mean zip if you're playing your best footy in September.

I reckon if McStay played, even if melb kicked straight I can't see them beating a fully fit Collingwood in September with their key target back. Add Elliot, McStay, Ginnivan back to the forward line, DeGoey and Howe that offsets the easy misses from Melb I think.

Richmond has decided premiership winner Marlion Pickett won’t play this week but has not stood him down after his appearance in a Perth court on Monday.
Tigers CEO Brendon Gale confirmed the club made the decision “mindful of his welfare” and said they made it with Pickett who will continue to train and could even be at Saturday’s clash with St Kilda.

Richmond should be charged with crimes against comedy.

I am very happy for this team to fly under the radar.
No way. I want as much expectation as possible. I want our players to be fired in that furnace so that come finals they are ready for it.

Sheilding them from expectations has got us nowhere.

You can fly under the radar and still be ready for finals.

I will say one thing that I also don't like about Hinkley. He has been asked about finals in his pressers and he says he takes it one week at a time. It's a tough competition, etc. They really should be eyeing finals and that layer of expectation should be within the group. They should be building towards it.

I'm not that concerned outside and what others are saying and I certainly don't care if one of our players misses out on a Best Team of the Round by Media Commentator Number 8.
