It takes a decade to build a spine. It takes 2 seasons (if that) to build a midfield. Look at Geelong and Collingwood who were both considered to have average midfields heading into the year.

All it takes is someone like Headland to actually pull the finger out and become elite. Paul Hasleby to dig deep and give up the puddings and icecream snacks. A youngster like Collard, Foster, Ibbotson, Dunn to take big steps forward. Schammer isn't far off moving up the ranks.

The cattle is there.

Oh please, Headland and Hase have been that ordinary this year have they, that all it would take is for the two of them to step up a little? I wish that were true, but I can't see it myself.

So your saying what we've seen this year is the best we can hope from these two. I remember after the first 11 games of 2003 Hasleby was equal favourite with Judd for the brownlow.

Gary Ablett junior was good without being great until this year. This year he's moved onto the ball by getting his fitness to the appropriate level and he's the brownlow favourite. I'm hopeful Headland can step it up another level.

Schammer was touted as having the biggest preseason and was set for a massive year before getting appendicitis. He's still a youngster who i've got big hopes for.

Crowley has gone backwards, probably due to the fact he missed preseason. Peake's been injured. Cookie who was part of the 9 game drive has shown he is passed his used by date.

A lot of things have gone wrong this year. Just pointing out that midfields are relatively easy to reassemble.

Then why don't we have one???

Or more to the point, how many of those years will be at Freo. Mark my words. If Pav goes then we will slide down further down the ladder next year.

Big call. So you reckon losing the best forward in the league and best player the club's ever had would be detrimental, genius

Trading and picking up HBF's hasn't helped.

I agree though, strong midfield's don't take long to develop.

The concern is how many years left does Pav have at the top of his game?

KPPs reach their peak at ages 26-30 according to Danny Frawley today. Pav's a spring chicken.

Yeah Pav and Tarrant have plenty of time. The question is whether Pav will remain...

We just need a young enthusiastic young midfielder who is speedy, tackles like crazy and likes to kick goals.

The positive is we have Gilmore. If our site is correct he is...Height: 189 cms Weight: 90 kgs. Mind you I think he is taller and heavier.

He can fill in as ruck, he can rove, he runs twenty and kicks fifty, he is a goto when we need some one, plays back, midfield, runs forward and kicks goals. FFS what else do you guys want !

A back up player of the highest order. With his 'big man' 'kpp' potential how about we give him "time to develop" like some here harp on about in regards to our marquees.

I don't agree entirely. While obviously none of us want to see Pav go and losing him would be an enormous blow, he's not going for nothing. If Pav leaves, he and the club will ensure we receive reasonable compensation. We've got Taz, Murphy and Campbell who are all capable of playing forward, as is Johnson and possibly also Thornton and all things going well Wiz has got a few years left in him.

We would have to be looking at either 2 or 3 very high draft picks or a pretty good player and a very high draft pick as a minimum trade for Pav - I don't think it would cause the on-field implosion that we probably all fear.

Having said that, I really can't see Pav walking out.

I thought about this also. Pav will only leave to go back home. What can Port or Adelaide really offer us?

Both teams will finish up fairly high up the ladder so their trade picks wont be that great.

spit, if they want him, they will find a way to get the picks they need- their only position of power would have been to finish on the bottom this year. This is the reason that huge trades don't happen though - clubs have to give up too much to get a player like Pavlich.

It is an interesting thought, you have to give up alot for one player. Players are only human and they can get injured.

I will cross the Pav bridge when he makes a decision, but at the moment he is a Freo player and deserves our !00% support. I admit somewhere in my head I will struggle if the captain and life member goes walkabout to "bad water city". We just have to make a darn good case for him to stay .....
