Might be an unpopular opinion, but I respect Davies and think he did a good job here. He fronted the media as long as possible, asking all questions. Of course he's gonna back Ken, he has to, but he was also quite honest and open about a lot of the list decisions and throwing his support behind some of our players.

WTF is wrong with these people? FMD

Even if the board has the final say on Keninkley I doubt they've told Davies to

  • get involved in greyhound racing with the head coach
  • keep ken hinkleys son around so the assistants cant speak freely in the box
  • get rid of Montgomery who is now at GWS + others, while we sign completely useless assistants forever
  • MUCH MORE

Yeah I thought he was OK.

Hes the least of our problems.

Anyone in his position has to play the company game.
Yes. There’s a point when you got to ask yourself if that’s worthy.

Davies has tied himself to the regime. Thus, he’s become part of the problem.

He may be a good asset, but he doesn’t have the benefit of the doubt. If the regime goes down, his arse should be on the line as well.

He may keep his spot, but it should be on probation, and because we failed to get an acceptable replacement.

Well done for actually showing his face I guess, much better than a couple of his colleagues.

My main issue is the discussion of yet another internal review. We've got the same group of people who conducted reviews after the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons and it would be most of the same people who decided to extend Hinkley's contract in 2020 and 2023.

These people shouldn't get another go at it. They clearly can't conduct a meaningful review and enact meaningful change. For all the improvement we had with the midfield, that happened after round 3, not in the offseason, and then we reverted to type as soon as the contract was signed.

The people doing the review absolutely can't include anyone who was involved in the Hinkley extension, but we all know it will and they'll simply sign off on it.

Yep. I think Davies generally is far less of an issue than any of Koch, Richardson or Hinkley, but he's a fully fledged co-conspirator at this point. He's had plenty of opportunities to make hard calls and advocate for change and it hasn't happened.

I think he's done a good job with many things, main one being his input into recruiting. But when it was pointed out to me that he was in the greyhound syndicate, that's just way too much of a potential conflict of interest. Not happy with that.

Any internal review will conclude that this year was a success.

Guys, stop thinking like this is the Port Adelaide Football Club. It’s not. The club exists in name only.

It has been replaced by a little suburban interstate club whose main mission is to simply fill the numbers; to avoid being bottom; to eventually make Finals every now and then.

Three Top-4, two PF, one Minor premiership in 4 years!? That’s way more than we should expect.

Welcome to the David Koch Football Club, also known as Southern Teal Power.

Chris Davies is fine with it.

My main issue is the discussion of yet another internal review.

It's pointless.

Whatever terms of reference are set out for the review, they will not include the senior coach.

Even if they did, and even if such a review concluded that Hinkley should not be the senior coach, the board is too weak to act.

Not sure if you heard the interview with Davies immediately post the Hinkley signing announcement as I couldn't find it online but if you get a chance. He was glowing in his praise of him to the point of ridiculousness. Of all the issues we have Hinkley is the biggest. Davies is his chief enabler and must be gotten rid of.

Time for him to be replaced. Took up his position in November 2014. Since then port have won two finals. He should be held accountable for the poor performance of the football department during his tenure, especially given he gave a glowing endorsement contributing to the Hinkley extension in 2023.

The thing that gets me about Davies is the false self-threats and promises he makes to be accountable. I’ve heard him numerous times tell us that if the job doesn’t get done and we’re not successful then they will be held to account including Ken and him. I haven’t yet seen this eventuate, like ever.

I could imagine Davies being footy manager at a successful Port Adelaide. I couldn't imagine Hinkley being coach, Richardson being CEO or Koch being chairman.

The reality is we don't know the inner workings of the club. Management wise it comes across to me as something of a Koch dictatorship. If that is the case, I imagine it would be very hard for anyone else to advocate for serious change without risking their own position.

I think Davies probably should've gone to the AFL because he won't achieve anything at Port. I suspect the only reason he didn't is because he wanted to stay in Adelaide.

Not sure why this guy continually escapes criticism. He has been head of football since late 2014. This absolutely coincides with the change in Hinkley, for the far far worse. The protection Hinkley is afforded by Davies is unlike anything I've ever seen before. (McGuire / Buckley maybe). They're in a greyhound syndicate ffs. Caro stated not long ago Davies is on the AFL wish list but will not leave because of his close relationship with Hinkley. Red flag anyone??? This guy is a cancer.

Probably because we listen to the 4 main guys speak and they come across as follows:

Hinkley - Dumb, arrogant flog with a loser mentality

Richardson - Weak leader who is merely Koch's puppet

Koch - Dictator who doesn't care about winning and is over the moon with mediocrity and just not being awful

Davies - Smart and tough operator who can only do so much given the idiots he has to work with

Agree with everything bar Davies.

The issue is, if his relationship with others at the club is so strong that he can't see past it to do his job properly, it actually doesn't matter how smart or tough he is. As much as he's a leader at the club, he's infected with as much of the "do the easy thing not the right thing" malaise as every other key decision maker.

It's not a lot different to the reviews which refused to actually look into the head coach. He's part of that. He's you'd imagine the key figure in every post season review we've had, not to mention the 2017, 2020 and 2023 extensions.

I totally agree that he seems intelligent and that most of the time he says the right things as opposed to the 3 other bozos, but talk is cheap.

This is again why we need control of our club back. We're in a situation where the Care Bears have been installed in charge and they'll make every sacrifice to ensure that everyone stays friends. None of that happens if the looming threat of the board being spilled exists.

We bag Richo for giving us nothing then lip service of ‘this is not acceptable’, we bag Koch and Hinkley for their message, we bag Davies for fronting the media and not throwing blokes under the bus? What do we expect?

I actually like(d) him too, But, no, he didnt have to back Ken AT ALL!! His job description involves him having significant input into whether or not to re-sign Ken. He needed to stand up and read the room when reporting to the board ... He failed miserably by recommending they go ahead!

Yes, of course NOW he has to back Ken, but that is only because they re-signed him two weeks ago, and he would look like d!ckhead if he didnt.

Huge failure on his part.

Just some, ANY, acknowledgement that the club leadership has made some significant mistakes over the past decade that have stopped us being successful. After 11 years and the most recent ridiculous contract extension, the fact that they dead-bat any attempt to put pressure back on them or their positions is incredibly frustrating.

Matthew Primus was given the worst coaching situation in the history of the club but he still sat there and took the blame for what happened each week.

Apart from Richardson getting ChatGPT to say "we own that" in each of his post season excuse letters, when have you ever heard one of our key decision makers even dip their toe into accountability?
