NOWHERE near it.
Some people can't let go.
It's not about us this season.
As said before, we have not beaten any of the 4 prelim teams, and we were so far off the pace it's not worth arguing.
Exactly - think we lost to pretty well every decent team and quite a few of the not so decent teams! You can’t be the best every year- we weren‘t much chop this year. Happy for someone else to win the flag. We’ll be back.

Nah i liked the effort because you had 2 teams fully committed and i respect that.

But asides from a few class players-guys like daicos and pendles and sidey and de goey and greene and ash and whitfield and green on the other it was a case of watching a bunch of potato farmers at the bottom end of each team make skill error after skill error. Thats what this year has been a race to the bottom not a race to the top.

Collingwood are just lucky they are slightly less crap than everyone else. Each to their own but not a standard of footy to catch my interest.
It was a good game for moments, atmosphere and tension. A lot of those contested scraps could've gone either way so it had that "knife edge" feeling.

Skill and decision making were lacking minus a couple of brief surges for either team. And not just from finals pressure, but relative to previous years finals standard. The amount of missed kicks from uncontested situations was high.

It really is an even comp but not a high standard at the top. It makes it exciting in its own way.

Was a finals pressure game .
Take you chances and be clean .

Thought who ever turns it over the least wins .
Before the game.

With all the fumbles and turnovers, peak Richmond during their dynasty would've slaughtered either team. Not because they were clinical skill wise, but their swarms and rock solid defence would've overwhelmed either side.
Especially when their true nemesis, the ARC, was a no show tonight

In what order would you rank the quality of the premiership-winning teams from 2012 to now in terms of how good they were at their best?

I'd put them something like this:

1. Hawks 2013-15
2. Geelong 2022
3. Richmond 2017,19-20
4. Melbourne 2021
5. West Coast 2018
6. Sydney 2012
7. Bulldogs 2016

Collingwood if they win the flag this year I'd rank as around the same level as the 2012 Sydney team. Or maybe slightly below them.

Btw, every single team on this list except the 2013-15 Hawks would have been utterly annihilated by the 2007-11 Cats. And the 07-11 Cats still would have beaten that Hawks side.

Totally irrelevant.
Peak Hawks in their 3peat may have beaten peak Tigers.
Peak Cats 7,9,11 may have beaten 3 peat Hawks?
Now is now, and you can only beat the rest of the comp as it exists.
There is more pressure on each team each year, and we saw how we handled pressure this year.

And yet we only beat Cwood by a goal in the QF last year and they’re probably a better team this year.

EXCEPT that great Cats team 08 could NOT beat the Hawks.
Nice IRRELEVANT theory.

The interesting thing to see going into next week will be if Collingwood can reset their emotions after tonight's win - you look at their celebrations immediately following the siren, and it was like they had won the flag

It reminded me of a couple of matches from last year's finals series
  • watching the Brisbane players celebrate following the semi final win, compared with how flat they then came out in the Prelim
  • similar with Sydney in their tight Prelim win over Collingwood, and they never really got out of first gear come the big match

I have no doubt that following last year's Prelim result that Collingwood didn't want to fluff two in a row and be watching next week on TV like the rest of us, but it does feel sometimes that the emotional impact of a win can be more influential the next week compared with the physical toll

Quite often with prelims, one game is close and the other is a blowout. So, if that trend keeps up I suspect the Lions will smash a beat up Carlton tomorrow night.

I didn't watch much of the game tonight because I really can't stand Collingwood. But GWS can walk away with their heads held high. What a season they've had after a horrible start.

The Pies made the GF. Ho-hum. I'll certainly be barracking for whoever they play.

So that you're actually putting forth a perspective of your own instead of just vacuously bitching about other people's opinions.
I did.
Each year is different.
Cats 22 cf Cats 23- chalk and cheese.
Cats 07, 08- same deal in the GF.
My perspective is it's IMPOSSIBLE to compare one winning GF team with another, even a year later.
Happy for you to have your opinion- I was referring to us in 22 v Pies and 23. v Pies, who are better this year, and 07, 08.
Not having a go at your post.

And yet we only beat Cwood by a goal in the QF last year and they’re probably a better team this year.

Hence why I specified that I was ranking the teams in order of how good they were "at their best" rather than just "how good were they when they played one another."

Peak Geelong 2022 was significantly better than peak Collingwood 2022. I would argue it's crazy to suggest otherwise.
