He's an interesting case for sure.

I like the bloke. But until recently, the suggestion that clubs would be clamouring to offer someone with his output $750k+ a year would seem ridiculous.

Inflation in the player free agency market is like the Sydney property market: its quite hard to keep up with what the new normal is.

I think he will get a decent offer that will trigger an end of first round pick and we probably don’t argue too much with that. He’s inconsistent, but also a forward at North so 🤷‍♂️ can see a club seeing they can get a Stringer like career out of him so offer him 100-200k more than what he’s probably worth.

I think the North fans coming up with other reasons he could stay (such as his friendships at the club) are hilariously naive. Oh dear boys, no player with close connections has ever left a club before? Dunkley & Treloar probably like each other more than their wives!

If we show real improvement we’re a chance to keep him. But a lot of the time these deals/decisions are done internally by May/June so we would want to hit the ground running.

That would be the main factor. He either stays out of blind loyalty, or decides to attempt to achieve something team-wise and leaves if we are bottom 2 again.

Yep - he’s the bloke you like when he’s on your list, but you never want your team to win a bidding war on him either.

Well if your club is happy to come 2nd 3rd 4th or the rest good luck to them. I am looking for flags cause there aint no 2nd prize No one remembers the runner up.

This is so stupid.

everyone knows that premierships are the ultimate.

But how do you win premierships?

Step 1) You win games (North are not even here)

Years by

Step 2) You make finals. Then You win finals. You make grand finals. You win the grand final.

It’s clear as day that success is a journey, a ladder, and it’s not like Brisbane is at all equal to North in 2024 because “they both didn’t win in 2023”. Ask players of 16 other clubs which one they would go to for 2024…

Save your whinging for Essendon overpaying McKay.

By what metric is McKay getting the offer he did “bullshit compo”?
The bullshit aspect was arranging the compensation before the contract was signed by McKay. Nothing wrong with what North did. Took advantage of the scam so good on them

Still fair to just admit thats what happened however

Well the old Confucius saying is correct, man who attempt masturbate with candle walk road between cockburn and success.

so it did what it was designed to do in that if you want to take players from a bottom placed club then the bottom placed club gets compensated more
Bombers were willing to pay the amount that triggers that level of compensation.

hardly a scam

Imagine floating the idea where 16 clubs would pay in draft picks for 2 to benefit. It's so stupidly insane, yet here we are.

The compensation for free agents was a good idea, particularly during the expansion club's initial years and to see if there were clubs that were getting raided due to multiple free agents qualifying in the same year. Good little initiative while it was in it's infancy. It hasn't worked out like that at all though so the jumping at shadows was unwarranted.

The fact it's still around is so rotten it's beginning to small like almonds. Time for the league to grow up and stop thinking they have to micro-manage every bloody thing the clubs do.

If you lose a free agent the club already gets compensation in the form of salary cap space and a list spot to draft/trade/sign a new player. They can even, and I know this sounds radical, bring in a free agent of their own (with the extra cap space).

That's how it's suppose to work. Not the garbage that it is now.

We're at the stage where clubs buy draft picks with Cap Space. That should have been the end of it. The two are directly linked and solved the problem.

Clubs being allowed to purchase draft picks for cash from other clubs is also something that could be abused and exploited and goes

So was Brad Scott a successful coach in your opinion.
