My spies told me he absolutley brained it in the vfl and playing against freo with sandilands and co there is no better time to bring the big fella back.
Not sure if i am totally keen on this idea but can he offer us something?
Especially with mooney under injury cloud and hawkins set to be omitted,
He might be handy.....
thoughts?

Re: king back for dockers

Three ruckman is risky. Not sure whether he should, but there is no doubt he will. Thompson has maintained all year that he will return.

Re: king back for dockers

My guess is Mooney won't play with "hamstring soreness'', Ottens will play forward and King will come in to ruck.

Re: king back for dockers

No.

Subiaco is a large ground, and King struggles to run around at the best of times.

If Mooney misses, call in Nathan Ablett and keep Tomahawk in the team.

Ottens and Blake dominated again on Friday night, so why make a change?

Does any one believe?

Hey guys, does any one think that Stephen King will ever play footy for the cats again or should he just retire and make a spot for someone that can play week after week??

Re: Does any one believe?

I think he may have his use, it depends on if he can turn what people are describing as excellent VFL form into AFL form.

I think the fact we havent rushed him into the team, and are making him earn his spot will make him a better player.

Plus if either Blake or Ottens goes down, having King means we arent completely screwed.

Re: Does any one believe?

Played last year when he was carrying an injury - making sure that he is as near to 100% fit as possible (won't be 100%!). He is a valuable player still but may have passed his used by date at the end of the season - hopefully after the GF.

Im agreeing with everything everyone is saying.
But i can read the writing on the wall from a mile away!
42 hitouts and 17 possesions is a fair afternoon.... if they can bring shan back last wk then they can bring kingy in!:o

Re: king back for dockers

I could see Hawkins being dropped and King back in. This would put Otto back in the forward line while King/Blake do the rucking. I guess we shall see how it all pans out this week.

Re: king back for dockers

Questionable whether the club would want to put him on the long flight over. But as the VFL has a bye, then I would expect to at least be present at Subiaco as an emergency for Ottens especially.

Re: king back for dockers

Mentioned elsewhere also, but it may be that Kingy can be our version of Clark Keating... injured all year, but turns it on in September!

Blonde question (perhaps)....what does 'brained it' mean? Is it another way of saying he did a good job in the VFL...oh dear...another 'hip' word I need to put in the memory bank!

Just another way to say he dominated in the Ruck. But I remember before the Hawks game he was dominating in the VFL and came in and played a shocker. Time will tell how it all pans out. A Fit and firing Kingy certainly wouldn't do our finals chances any harm.

Yeah agreed, the key point been a FIT king! If he can string another couple of full games under his belt with good performance he may become a handy inclusion. It will be a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly, that been to include him or keep him out of the side. I wouldn't put too much faith in a couple of good VFL performances either, as I think bomber said a while ago the gulf between AFL and VFL performances is getting wider.

Having said that, having another big body player come finals time and allowing otto to drift forward maybe desirable.....I don't know!

If we can secure a top 2 position it may then be worth giving him every opportunity to get back into the squad, and make a real decent claim for inclusion come finals but until then, or if Blake or Otto are forced out with injury I think we should stick with a winning formula.

Exactly. Was more than handy in our past campaigns, in fact we went backwards against the Swans in 05 after he went down in the third qtr. Big stong ruckmen have done plenty of damage in September.

Not sure on him coming back this week though. A 3 hour flight before playing on the biggest ground in the league might not be the best thing for him. Home, home, Dome and home before going to the Gabba is what pans out after this week so I don't think we'd throw him in just yet. A week off followed up with the Crows at home sounds a bit more logical to me (if form warrants it of course).

Ottens dominated, Blake didn't.

Ottens is in great form this year. He has played mainly in the ruck and that is wear he plays his best footy and is of most use to the team. I wouldn't like to see him go down forward again.

Nope,no need for him.The VFL have a bye this week,so give him a rest.
The last thing Kingy needs is a rest. He needs to keep playin footy.

Mark Blake hardly deserves to be dropped, but I think a rest may do him good. I think his first full season at the top is starting to take its toll.

IMO, Ottens has to stay as our number 1 ruckman, not in the forward line so we can't have all 3 in the side. Its a battle of form between Kingy and Blake to see who rucks for the cats in september.

if King has anything worthwhile left or not is the question?

I have no doubt he can bring something to any other of the 15 clubs in the league. Us though, I have my doubts.

But, if we're gonna try him, I say may aswell get in now while the goings good.

I say bring King in for Rd 18 against Richmond at Skilled, and then for a couple of weeks.

It has benefit in two ways:
1. Gives King some time in the ones to see if his body will handle it. If so, he will be very valuable during the finals. If not, he will retire.
2. Gives Blake a rest for a few weeks. If Kings body then doesn't hold up, we know that Blakey will enter finals in good condition.

If so, there is a retirement village for him and his kind at Princes Park.

I haven't been to a VFL game to see Kingy in awhile, but the reports to date on his performances have been encouraging, if anything.

Not so much that he's dominating hit outs (which, really, is to be expected against VFL-tier beanpoles), but that he (apparently) looks like he actually has a hint of athleticism in his body still, is putting said athleticism on show with some regularity by getting/pushing himself around the ground, and doing the usual non-existant things like taking contested marks, being physical etc. Of course, all apparently.

He's still the third-choice ruck at the club at the moment, in my books, but that's not to say I'm not/wouldn't be happy with him legitimately pushing for a senior spot on the basis of his form. Can only be a good thing.
