The sad case of Shannen Doherty makes me wonder just how long some people can live with terminal cancer.

It kind of reminds me of the plot of a short-lived TV series in the late 2010s called 'Terminal' with Lucy Hale in the lead role, playing a young woman who had been battling terminal cancer in hospital for over a decade since she was in high school. I never saw the show, but the premise was that one day the oncologists to their astonishment find that a routine chemotherapy session has somehow conquered her cancer, and she can leave the hospital.

She does just this - only to find that instead of happiness life outside the cancer ward is even bleaker and a far cry from the happy masquerade her husband, family and friends had been presenting to her in what should have been her final years. Her parents are divorced, her family are all completely broke financing her cancer treatments, her sister becomes resentful after giving up her college dream to help her younger sister, her brother once very driven and ambitious is now a lazy ne'er do well, some grandparents have died, her husband has moved on a little too quickly to a new girlfriend, her friends all have completely different lives and to make things worse, she is now aged in her late-20s with no work or life experience, and no qualifications not even a high school diploma.

my father in law has had terminal lymphoma for 10 years, mother in law has been battling terminal multiple myeloma for 6 years now.
