I don't know if he was a smoker but the legal age for smoking used to be sixteen and the campaigns against smoking in the late 80s in the UK weren't what they were here.

I think the lungs are one of the most common places for cancer elsewhere in the body to metastasize so it doesn't necessarily mean smoking is the cause all the time.

Edit: Having said that I just re-read the tweet and it says spread from his lungs so yeah idk.
