Winning streaks against rival clubs

Beat them after the siren at Marvel 2 years ago, rest would be at the GABBA due to Easter Thursday.

Play them at Marvel again in Rd 23.
That game still haunts me. Went to the game at the Gabba a year or two prior where we narrowly beat you guys in a shootout, flew up to GC to visit some family and was going to to go the game and fly out of brisbane. Bris city had that covid scare and the game was moved, after scrambling to get flights out of GC to avoid quarantine was back in time for the game (Broke my self-imposed ban on going to Marvel because we had been horrible there for some time) Only to see us fall in a heap and lose after the siren.

Fast forward 2 years and my flight to watch us play GC the other week was cancelled. Maybe I am not supposed to go to games in QLD haha.

Better break that self-imposed ban again, because Round 23 is going to be a cracker (And likely a sellout).

Freo beat Hawthorn by 37 points at the MCG in August last year and we generally play well in Melbourne. There seems to be a widely held view that Hawthorn are going to overtake us this year but I’ve seen very little evidence that either team has improved much TBH.

With a 5-7 record at Optus last year I’d be more concerned they’d knock us off at home.

Freo won't break the streak this year, not at Etihad. Collingwood is forever destined to win in Sydney so scrub that one out too. Melbourne will most likely get thumped by Hawthorn. Carlton however should give Hawthorn a shake, should be a massive game, don't mind either team losing either. :D

Doesn't look like a good year for break streaks.
Glad freo broke that streak at Docklands in 2012.

The Freo streak against Hawthorn is really interesting (6 games in a row now and likely to continue).

Interesting because even with this streak - which represents 15% of all games played between the 2 clubs - Hawthorn is still the team that Freo have the worst record against (32% win rate). Prior to these 6 games, Hawthorn won 6 in a row of their own and 12 of the previous 13. The overall record was 28-8 in Hawthorn's favour! Hawthorn had also never lost to Fremantle at either of our current home grounds (MCG or York Park). The last time Freo beat Haw outside of Perth was way back in 2001 (when a top 4 Haw dominated a winless Freo before arrogantly resting its players and witnessing a 50 point comeback).

Just funny how we've gone from their absolute bogey team (from 'inception until 2020) with just a 20% win rate to suddenly being their bunnies with both their biggest win streak and our biggest losing streak.
