Simpson on 6PR saying we are going to try a few things and when asked about Essendon’s pace being a concern he said the final selected side would have some pace

Brockman will come into the side along with Hunt to add speed

Based on what he said it may well be Gaff who misses out but we’ll have to wait to tomorrow

I’m going to give it a second listen to confirm my first thoughts but there were some things that Simpson said in that interview which pissed me off a bit.

Talking about losing Dom Sheed like he’s been in career best form, something about tinkering with the forward line because we’re missing Reid and Kelly from the midfield and that we don’t have any other options there but to try Liam Ryan on ball (I wonder what Hall and Trew think about that) and dismissing Pap’s questions about how many tall forwards is too many and when will he be blooding the youth.

Starting to think parting company at the end of the year is the best option.

Ol Fages knows shit about player conditioning, reckons Ashcroft will come straight into the senior side.
Obeanie needs to educate him.

Edit: If Obeanie is unavailable looks like Sharpie could do the job.
He knows more about the fitness of players than the employees at the club.

What I do know is that Simmo told us the exact same thing about Oscar and he did Ryan and Flynn previously, "cherry ripe, if anything over prepared" Then immediately after their first game back contradicted himself and said "well der off course they are underdone, they haven't played senior footy in yonks." Could be different with Oscar or could be a trifecta. Let's wait and see, he's coming from further back than either of them with not even a walf game but no reason to think that means anything at all.

Surely Billiams is out? With Allen, Waterman, Darling, McGovern, Hedwards, that is enough players to play as the 2nd ruck?

Bench should be: Brockman, Chesser, Hedwards, Culley and sub - Hutchinson, which means:

In - Allen, Hunt, Brockman
Out - Gaff, Sheed and Billiams

I did know that, but having Miguel on block I was hoping no one thought posting about it was some kind of relevant point.

Waterman still played full forward against North, and was probably named at CHF for no reason other than to have this answer ready to go for when Simmo gets asked about it at his next presser.

Who will play full forward out of Oscar and Jake has been a focus for the media for months. Both of them have been asked on camera whats going to happen when Oscar comes back. For anyone paying any attention at all to this sub plot there was intrigue as to who would be named where when Oscar returned because obviously that's an interesting story, and how its handled is an insight into the clubs culture.

Clubs with a strong culture would back the form player in, make a bit of a show of the returning star having to earn his spot back. Where they actually play on Sunday is less important as that situation is fluid. The team announcements of starting positions are symbolic and the club chose to send the message here that reputation is king, which fits perfectly with what they are about but yes, it shits me. Because it's kind of dishonourable and antithetical to good culture.

Is it a small thing, yeah sure but to me it was a test of character for Oscar Allen as well. He's captain so should be grateful he doesn't have to come back through the seconds- which in itself sends the wrong message to the team about selection integrity. It would have been appropriate for him to say "this is a bit of a bad look. Name me on the bench, or in a pocket, or up the ground and give Jake a bit of symbolic acknowledgement for what he's achieved." He's done nothing to earn his spot back at all. He may yet prove he deserves it over Waterman in coming weeks, but a good leader has a bit more humility I think. Especially if he has confidence in himself.
It was asked directly to Oscar in Coast to Coast and he said expressly that Waterman is the man and he wouldn't be ****ing with it. He'll work with him like JK did with Darling for ages and ensure they both are effective and don't hinder each other.
So I have no doubt Waterman and Allen will work well together. don't forget that Snake does roam quite a bit to wear his opponent out so he's not a pure stay at home deep forward.

Bailey will keep playing with Flynn for the forseeable future. Bailey is far from our worst, and Flynn hasnt been doing 85% ruck time or anything yet.
We really dont want any of those 5 you named doing any rucking if possible tbh, maybe Darling doing the odd one deep in the forward line

I've seen them both on that recently and it's also come up in other media. I don't think either of them have been drawn on who is going to play full forward, Oscar certainly hasn't said "yeah, Jakes going awesome the spots his." They've both pretty much said it's not about positions it's about working together. To an extent that is true, but also only one of them can play at full forward and it is going to be either or. Clearly both of them are capable of playing full forward and both want the spot, one of them is going to have to sacrifice their game at least a little bit. All we know so far is the clubs gone at its earliest convenience Oscar is the full forward. We'll see how it plays out. With 10 games to go to 300 maybe old man Darling will be spending more time than either of them closer to goal.

Hall and Trew are more of the same sort of player as Ginbey, Culley. We are missing our more offensive mids in Reid and Kelly, guys like Ryan or Petch are more of a like for like than Hall/Trew.
We need speed in our midfield, doesnt really matter what Hall or Trew think of that. Trew is a rookie to be delisted at the end of the year and Hall is a first year player wearing a wrist brace still, Hall will get chances

Based on this being correct, my best guess is

Backs - McGovern, Barrass, Rotham, Witherden, Hough, Duggan, Cole

Rucks - Flynn, Williams

Mids - Yeo, Ginbey, Chesser, Hunt, Jones, Petruccelle

Forwards - Allen, Waterman, Darling, Maric, Cripps, Ryan, Brockman

(Ryan and Brockman to have stints rotating through midfield with Jones and Petch)

Sub - Culley

Traveller - Hutchinson to give him a look at what that entails

WAFL - Gaff, Edwards

Unlucky to miss - Trew, Hall, Dewar

In : Allen, Hunt, Rotham, Brockman
Out : Sheed, Gaff, Edwards, Hutchinson

Culley sub in lieu of Maric

It’s probably about as best we could select with maybe the exception of either Trew or Hall instead on one of the forwards we’ve picked

Christ that's a thin midfield.

You'd be crazy not to tag Yeo. Take him out of the game and the 4 points are yours.

Playing a midfield is 2024 level thinking, we've still got to find new spots for Jack Williams and Harry Barnett and debut Archer Reid. And of course Bazzo is an automatic selection 4-6 weeks from now as well.

I mean our expected score from the game was 75 and we scored 65. A lot of our misses weren’t high quality chances.

When yeo started dominating in the last we scored with ease.
So it's ****ing yeos fault we kicked 2 goals 15 to 3 quarter time. I knew it

Tbf the points are essendons regardless of whether Yeo has a 40.possy 5 goal game I'd say lol.

There is a god!!!

Nah, Sheeds downfall has been predominantly due to his shit attitude. I love what he did in 2018 but every time I watch him play I lose more respect for him.
I for one wont be at all disappointed if we dont see him play AFL for WCE again. Maybe harsh but Im done watching him refuse to chase, tackle or try to undertake any team orientated action.
Matera busted his arse right until the end of his career too, seem to remember some epic chase down tackles in his latter years. Absolute legend.

**** I thought I posted some stupid drivel in here over the years but this is a whole new level of shite.

Waterman’s named in the exact same spot he was last week.

And the positions on Thursday night don’t mean much. Do we expect Jones to play on a wing?

No, but we expect him to play -for the speedy factor.

Yep, mentioned that earlier, would seem the thing to do...the rest of the mids are pretty one dimensional (apologies to Ginbey who is not quite there yet)
Good thing if Brockman is playing for some pace and zig-zag-ability.

Not like you to be so casual with the facts Miggy.
