I'm always telling non Sydney people this.. Other coaches pull mind games during grand final week and treat the match like football war.. But Horse seems to go about it totally different which generally doesn't work for us.. If we make it this year hopefully he pulls his finger out.

Agreed. Whatever the cause of losing GFs by big margins something has to be done differently as it undoes all the hard work during the year and lets down the team and fans badly.

Ye i don't understand why it's called 'All Australian' either, like what is the context in naming it that. Just call it the AFL team of the year or something.
It's because the All-Australian team used to be named after the carnivals that happened in the 50s/60s/70s/80s. The players were named to the team on the basis of their performance at the carnivals, and in the context of being a player from a particular state.

As such, being named to a combined Australia-wide side the appropriate label was All-Australian.

The modern conception of the All-Australian team (i.e. based on AFL season long performances) has only existed from 1991.

They weren't SOO in the 50/60s and most of the 70's

How? He's out of contract when Chad is.
I think the idea would be that we can renegotiate the final year of Warner's current contract when signing a new deal.

If Parker was to leave and we suddenly had 800k extra cap space for someone to sign long term, maybe J McInerney will be happy to take it if Chad doesn't want to.

Yeah I dunno I think that's a long bow to draw. You could easily phase Warner's contract to take the extra money into account from year 2 of a new deal.

They could structure the deal anyway they like.

The point is if Parker left at the end of this year, his money could potentially go to Warner next season and help us re-sign him this off-season.

Your first sentence is my point and makes the second paragraph irrelevant.

oh god, here we go.

I dunno how else to explain this, but if Parker leaves and takes his big salary with him then we will have more salary cap space in 2025.

That may help us re-sign Warner or someone else.
You just said yourself we can structure Warner's deal however we want. It might have slipped your notice but Warner is contracted for next year. We can then give him the money freed up from Parker the following year.

If Parker leaves at the end of this year, we can use that salary cap space to re-sign players straight away. We don't have to wait until 2026 to use the money.

This is a huge advantage for us in trying to re-sign someone who other clubs dying to throw huge money at.

We can go to Warner in December, you are on 500k in 2025, we can now make that a million if you are willing to extend.

This is really not a complicated idea and would happen all the time across the competition.

'Clarkson said he is also interested in chatting with Port Adelaide's Ollie Wines, Sydney duo Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, and Greater Western Sydney veteran Callan Ward.'

'Interesting' that Clarkson would publicly name players under contract.

Yes clubs regularly toss out contracted players while under no pressure to do so. Why would Warner care overly if we gave him the extra 500k next year or the year after? You seem to be arguing with yourself here.

We got rid of Hannebery under contract. Rohan under contract. Aliir under contract.

Anyways, this is stupid. I dunno why you don't understand that having salary cap space next year might be useful. So lets just leave it.

You were the one that said we didn't need it next year because we could structure his contract however we want. :tearsofjoy: Are you ok?

Yeah let's leave it there. What a weird exchange.

Having Luke Parker on the list next year might be useful.

It's a separate discussion. I don't want to lose Parker either and think he should have played nearly every game he was available for this year.

The confusion was one poster not understanding why extra salary cap space in 2025 might help us re-sign Warner.

I would hope we aren't in a position where we need to dump a contract of an existing player to afford an existing player.

Ah I understand the confusion, I missed the fact Warner was out of contract in 2025. Makes sense now why we would need to push Parker out and give Warner his contract value next year.

I am not saying we need to push him out.

Just that the extra money could help if he was to leave.

And not just with trying to re-sign Warner. An extra 800k in our salary cap for next year, could help with a lot of things if Parker was to leave.

Like what? Who's out of contract?

Sounds like a lot of guessing by you on a faulty premise. You said it yourself, we can structure Warner's deal however we want. Or are you suggesting he wants out and we need to entice him to stay?

I have no idea what Warner wants to do.

But I know that being able to give him a big pay increase next year, and not having to wait until 2026 could be very handy for us. You don't have to wait until a player is out of contract to renegotiate. It happens all the time.

He could be genuinely torn about what he wants to do, but the opportunity to get a massive increase immediately in 2025 might be the difference in getting him to extend with us.

He is getting well-paid from 2026 regardless. It's what happens in 2025 that can change.
