I'm not sure anyone has tried to say Holmes has been better over his career, but it was clear to anyone who saw both players play last year that Holmes has overtaken Walsh as a footballer.

Overtaken or Walsh just impaired? So far Holmes best has never been as good as Walsh's as seen in 2021 and parts of 2022, 2023 and 2024. Major back surgery has clearly hampered Walsh the last couple of years. Understandable given he was working off no preseason while Holmes had a clean run at it. At their best however its a no contest, Walsh wins out every time.

Holmes was much better in midfield than Butters in the 2024 finals series.

Walsh was worse performed than a 45 year old Dangerfield in the second half of the season.

I said mainly on what they had done with consideration on potential. A popularity contest? Because they were all Australian 2 times? If I did it on potential alone S Darcy would be ahead of those two he is like the wembenyama of afl. I think the top 3-5 will have better careers than both of yours mentioned.
