Exactly, they would use any rumor of a hint of something they could say was involved with HB to get Biden/Dems bad into the interview sound bites during as many news cycles as they can. It's what they did with Hillary, with Biden, hell McCarthy admitted it was their agenda.
They might still, especially as they will need the distractions from Trump's activities, but at least they can't drag the Biden's through performative investigations again. They had years to do that already while they had a majority and have shown bupkis for it.

There have been very few who've I've heard that have unilaterally supported Biden's pardon; from it's a bad look to 'How can they lower themselves to the GOP's level!'. As to comparing this case of selective prosecution with Trump's. In NYC, I'd like to know how many developer types or similar business execs get done for taxes. Is it statistically consistent? If so, how do they determine who's turn it is? I think it is just that, it was their turn for some reason. Trump went into politics thereby opening up his activities to greater scrutiny.
