This is almost always the answer.

Questions like "how do you think you'd handle being asked to play in the VFL, as co-captain, if it was the right thing for the team on a given week?" probably helped shape the offseason discussions

A little disappointed, I was thinking that Simpkins days in the team may be numbered with some of the youngsters coming through, but happy to see McDonald has stood down.

I was hoping Larkey would be given the opportunity to Captain the club for a season or two before handing over to Sheezel, but that doesn't look like it will happen now.

I genuinely do not have a spot for him in my Round 1 best 22.

If he can get back to being a solid lock down general defender, pull down 2-4 intercept marks and (this one is vitally important) know his limitations with his disposal, he will remain ahead of Hardeman, Dawson and Goater.

In saying this, however, he has really averaged around ten games a season over the last few where he has been this reliable.

Looking at Harry one could plaster that song lyric one step closer……..soon mate very soon.

I’m sure it’s nice for Jy to get the sole captaincy.

And it is great for Sheez to get into the moulding stage. He does deserve whatever path is necessary.

But if Larkey is having a year similar to the last few where he struggles to get into the games, ends up flailing his hands and diving forward with the slightest contact when the ball isn’t coming his way, and jy has too few of those west coast games. I’m not sure where the rest of the ground is going to look for leadership.

I mean I do, it will be Parker - but then we’ve got a situation like the last 3-4 years.

Feel like Parker could have joined Larkey and Sheezel or even Jy tbh.

Might also be useful if the players in the VFL are knocking the door down to put selection pressure on anyone under performing in the AFL. No point saying drop Luke and Jy every week if there's no-one to replace them.
