Obviously as I have got older I have to acceot the countdown is not for me. There has always been a collection of good and rubbish songs in the countdown even in the 90's.

What I don't get is what the purpose of the countdown is now a days. It's not really a reflection of JJJ play list and if it is then as a government funded station it's needs a rethink. As an example it really doesn't make much sense for them to play Billie Eilish now a days. If it's ratings drop then so be it.

Hard to believe how absolute sh.t this year's countdown was. Poppy Nova FM crap that JJJ hadn't even played.

At least we have a new Lana Del Ray album to look forward to this year - but wonder if the teeny pop audience that seems to be the JJJ demographic right now will vote for her these days..........

Does seem like there is a disconnect between voters and actual triple j listeners now. If you put any top Spotify chart song on the voting list like espresso it would of polled high with no plays. Twice as many female voters too pushes the pop songs too.

Low and behold, Espresso appears at #177 in the countdown despite not being on the voting list.

Am I high or have they played Weaponz by Teenage Dads twice?

Not that I'm complaining, banger song.

I didn't notice but others noticed it doubled up.

The far superior Royel Otis cover also makes an appearance at #196 despite not being on the voting list. I do wonder how well that would’ve done had it been on the list.

If I voted for Image instead of Death & Romance, I would've had all my ten.

I ended up voting for my ten off of the voting list and didn't manually add any songs which is why I had a higher hit-rate.

Image is a great tune, but I'm surprised it made it in over D&R.

i didn’t vote but off the top of my head my top 10’d be something like (in no order)

1) new species - iglooghost
2) j/d/f - hammok
3) ashes - asian glow
4) 365 - charli xcx
5) frownland - chat pile
6) bussit- joey valence & brae
7) blackwater - bloom dream
8) flowerfields - samlrc
9) 주마등 (A Lot Can Happen) - parannoul
10) sleep hygiene - uboa
I just googled Frownland to see if it was a Captain Beefheart cover. Clearly not, but does not sound bad

chat pile make some really good, miserable metal. would recommend all of their work

With Espresso at 177 and Royel Otis’ Linger cover at 196 despite not being on the voting list, I do wonder how different the count would’ve been had they been eligible. Think both would’ve been genuine shots at being Good Luck Babe, especially given Royel Otis’ Murder on the Dancefloor cover finishing second almost just felt like a proxy for being unable to vote for Linger.

I did well.
None of mine, none I say, even got a look-in. Post #6 if interested.
Don't normally sink the slipper in, but Gracie Abrams copping so many Top 100 slots
is nonsense.
Lovely looking girl, but her most of her material is underwhelming when compared to some of the
stuff nominated by one of the great arbiters of taste, me.:)

I think they didnt want to draw attention to the Linger cover as it was performed on SiriusXM and not triple j, probably jealous they did a way better cover for them than the one they did for Like A Version haha

most surprising thing I found even the 200 had no appearances from Dune Rats or DMA's, I thought What a Life with Ruel was a lock for the 100 given the popularity of both Ruel and DMA's, and Dune Rats usually sneak a track in. Cheapskate is one of their best.

Yeah that’s 100% why Linger wasn’t on there. I can understand that one.

Good point on Ruel especially, Ruel has overperformed the last couple years too.

I dont mind Ruel, he's by no means a favourite but some of his stuff is alright, but that Hottest 100 of the past 10 years they did in 2020 when he stans went wild and voted in a bunch of his tracks was absurd.
