I dunno man, I reckon it would be pretty easy to trade a 40 hour week for a 20 hour week on 500k.

If it was offered to me I'd be pretty motivated. Things would have to get pretty bad to give that up.

I guess for me though - it was building nicely. The club recruiters declared when they recruited him they thought long term he could transition to the middle.

Year 1 - Had a taste of the midfield in 5 of the first 8 games. Started brilliantly in the first 10 games overall then fell of a cliff. Played 15 games - only 21 CBA's.

Year 2 - Came out of the blocks with significant midfield minutes in 2023. Through the first 6 rounds he had a shitload of CBA's.... then seemed to hit a wall. Once again - I dont think anyone was upset with this trajectory. They then pulled back the 2nd half of 2023 which is understandable.

He then spends the preseason training to spend time in the middle. Its happy days for everyone. It seemed everyone was on the same page.

Then boom - the real stuff happens and he gets 6 CBA's in the first 6 rounds. Something must have happened surely....

Look, this just feels like fiction to me. You're twisting yourself in circles to pull some fan fic together.

Rachele trained as a midfield option but ended up spending more time forward.

That COULD be because he stole Nicks' yoghurt from the staff fridge and Nicks hates him now. Or it could be because we needed an offensive small forward option, once we started giving more midfield time (or he had weeks suspended) to Rankine.

Maybe Nicks has a vendetta, and maybe all the efforts he makes to defend Josh publicly are because he's trying to cover his arse.

Or maybe he doesn't have a vendetta. I guess it's impossible to know.

Because he's a motivated kid and a gun.

I reckon we should do it to him again this year. That will totally get the best out of him.

Or......, he just wasn't good enough in the centre! I recall some awful efforts by him in the centre before he was dismissed from there. That would have changed anyone's view.

Whats fiction? I don't think anyone can dispute what happened with Rachele.

What is being debated is the why.

It is - which means we speculate. Which is what all of us are doing.

I would say there is a hell of a lot more evidence to point towards a fracture between Nicks and Rachele in 2024 than it being nothing.

Which would be fine - if it was communicated to him.

And also if thats the case - why waste all that time preseason having him as a midfielder. Why throw him in for half a game against West Coast if Nicks doesn't rate him as a midfielder.

There is just too much smoke for there not to be a fire.

I checked out Adelaide uni as well but no dice.

Wherever it was, hopefully we find out so I’ll know where to check next time.

Re Rachele I think it’s pretty safe to speculate the reasons he didn’t play much midfield are probably


1. Rankine went in there and they wanted one of those 2 forward re scoring power

2. Rachele hadn’t played a good game after the bye in each of his first 2 seasons due to burn out / body resilience issues

3. More genuine options emerged in midfield eg Soligo was able to spend more time in there with more body maturity and Berry had a (semi) return to form

Other reasons that I wouldn’t agree with ( nicks ) logic on would have been accomodating Laird in mid and his poor form which eventually resulted in him going to half back


Be interesting in future …. I’m not sure Rachele will be part of midfield plans when we have Dawson Rankine Soligo Draper as our main mids and developing guys like Curtin Edwards Taylor Dowling etc waiting in wings

If we able to trade for Phillipou or similar of that stature I’d say Rachele be an even lesser chance to play mid and that’s ok

Id still give him some spurts personally

I think Rachele is too slow for the midfield now - keep him forward I reckon

General question here for everyone.
Are there any reports , speculative or otherwise, about the leadership group this year? Last year's 26-man leadership squad (okay, okay, 7 or 8 🤷) was a pretty embarrassing look, I'm hoping it's trimmed down to 4. Any ideas or thoughts on who we'd like to see?
