So just because he was better in the VFL last year than a second year key forward, that makes him a better player? Lemmey is clearly a project with a high ceiling, McMahon is not. Hence why he was delisted by a club that had almost no key forward depth at the time.

Just cause he plays well at VFL level, doesn’t mean that will automatically transfer to AFL level. Some of the best players in the VFL are either failed AFL players, or players that have no interest in them from AFL clubs

If a player who plays the same position as you, in the same team as you, consistently performs better, then he is better than you, it doesnt mean he will always be better but until you consistently out perform someone else, you aren’t better.

Suggesting the player who thus far has struggled to even make an impact at VFL is better or will be better, is fanciful.

Lemieux is 21 years old, less than two years younger than McMahon.

Interesting discussion, personally I still have high hopes for Lem. He hopefully will have a great season and show us all that

he really does have it. I do like McMahon as well, dominated last year in the magoos. However it is now a huge difference

between the two comps. Hopefully he has spent a lot of time in the gym over the summer and put on some muscle. Coming

up against the likes of Moore, May and Taylor. He will need to be stronger to compete. This is the only knock on him

though, like the way he goes about it. He gets my vote, for promotion.

Realistically, when would McMahon come up against the players you mentioned? Are you assuming he’d only play if we were decimated by injuries? Would he not make a handy 3rd tall forward if Kemp fails to impress in the role?

We need a back up defender that can stay on the park. DGB or Phillips for me. But would like to take McMahon if we use two spots too.

We are light on for Key Position players - so in the words of the little Mexican girl - why can’t we have both?

We’re currently only opening up 1 spot, so that either puts it down to McMahon vs others, or no one joins us this FEB, therefore leaving a spot open for the MSD.

IMO we should load up to fill the numbers and also add Newman to the Inactive List before SSP closing (if he makes it back, that can be at the expense of another - can’t see us being immune to the industry norm of season-ending injuries by the MSD).

So add McMahon & Phillips.

Newman being put on the inactive list and being replaced, only for him to recover ahead of schedule but not be able to return to the list because there are no other injured players strikes me as less likely than the sun rising in the west. I don’t understand the hesitation.

Phillips and McMahon?

Put a call in agro
That would definitely round out our list.

Reckon Austin has done an pretty amazing job so far....we're in a position that we're in a premiership window so looking to improve our list to take the next step, and at the same time need to keep building from the bottom up with the spectre of Tassie looming. Which is why the decision to re-rookie Jeff Carroll made sense to keep bringing in talented kids. And why the decision to trade up for Jagga made even more sense, especially coupled up with jagging the Campo's at a bargain basement price.

McMahon at 22yo definitely fits both criteria in terms of age and depth, and Phillips gives us that depth down back.

Cottrell really is such a good runner. Has that rare speed/endurance combo that is perfect for the AFL. Hope he has a big year, there’s plenty of competition for spots.

Controversial opinion:

He’s not quick. He’s not slow….but he’s not quick.

Wow!!! That makes it difficult for him to knock that amount back. C’mon King, stay loyal, stay blue!! Go baggers!!
$4 M difference.

How much difference in endorsements and being part of the Carlton family vs StKilda?

I'd say he'd easily make that up ok the back end if he stayed. The difference is guaranteed money vs the promise of "we'll look after you"

See it being a difficult year for him.

If all goes well, he'll struggle to get a game as others go past him.

I think he's pretty much at his level now, with only incremental improvements to look forward to.
