So I noticed on Facebook that AFL is listing every team's team of the century "so far" (so I assume 2000 onwards), and I wanted to give it a shot.

So players like Peter Mann or Matthew Burton wouldn't count since they didn't play for us in 2000 or onwards. I also wanted to see your predictions too before AFL releases theirs for Freo (they just released Carlton's). Here's mine:

B: Luke Ryan, Shane Parker, Roger Hayden
HB: Michael Johnson, Luke McPharlin, David Mundy (vc)
C: Shaun McManus, Nat Fyfe, Stephen Hill
HF: Clive Waterhouse, Matthew Pavlich (c), Michael Walters
F: Jeff Farmer, Tony Modra, Hayden Ballantyne
R: Aaron Sandilands, Peter Bell, Paul Hasleby

I/C: Ryan Crowley, Antoni Grover, Andrew Brayshaw, Justin Longmuir
Sub: Troy Cook

Coach: Ross Lyon

Unlucky: Dale Kickett, Lachie Neale, Paul Duffield, Paul Medhurst, Sean Darcy, Alex Pearce, Chris Mayne, Caleb Serong

If I’m picking a team to win games rather than what they’ve done for the club I’m picking Pearce over Parker every day of the week and Neale and Serong are making my side. Not a chance Mundy plays half back either - he’s into the midfield where he belongs. There’s no chance I’m leaving Duffield out of my side for now either (I don’t think some of our current HBFs are that far off just not yet).

Neale and Serong way ahead of Bell and Haseby in my opinion. Hasleby had some good games but he was a defensive liability at times with his running. Bell got exposed by two way runners too plus he was hardly damaging by foot with his 30 metre kicks.

Shaun McManus ran around like a headless chook. Surely we can remove him and Troy Cook.for more skilled players.

Walters at his peak should be in the team.

Great looking team, but Jackson hasn’t earned the spot yet, maybe in 4-5 years he’ll be there.

I think people forget just how good JL was in the early 2000s before injuries ruined him.

Genuine question: Did Waterhouse and Modra do enough for the club in 2000 and 2001 to be part of these sides. I’m picking them if it’s all time Freo but post 2000 is two seasons (Waterhouse was kind of sh** after his injury) enough? Edit: The injury issues for both players started in 2001 so it was only really 2000 at their very best.

Well Modra kicked 70 plus goals in a season, so basically the most amount of goals by any Freo forward in the last 25 years. (I appreciate it was a different time back then). For mine he has to slot into the forward line until someone else knocks him out.

Probably a little ruck-heavy, considered Switta and Medhurst but felt Darcy is the better player. Treacy just needs to keep doing what he's doing, maybe drag Amiss and Bolton along with him.

The conversation was Freo’s best team since 2000. Modra’s 70 goal season was in 1999.

I literally said Modra and Waterhouse would be picked if it’s all time but post 2000 we’re basically just talking the 2000 season because both were cooked injury wise after that.

I find these things extremely hard bur I agree with the OP. If you're truly picking a team to play as a team and win games, Crowley would be in it. I'm surprised by the number of teams he has been left out of.

It’s an interesting one IMO. Would he get a game for the current team given how much genuine taggers have gone out of fashion.

Would almost be the best tagger ever though in an era when every team had them.

Ling is the only one I can think of as superior. I rate Crowls ahead of Kirk who everyone raves about. He was that good IMO.
I would play him in the current team in a heartbeat

That's probably our best 22. I think banners out for Barlow. Superior player

Thanks for including Brad Hill, may not have been here long enough to ingratiate himself with the fans, but is clearly one of the best wings to have played for Freo ever.
