Just don't understand the club's stand against drafting a young developing ruck, generally can be had for minimal draft capital or even as a rookie, especially given both our lead ruck and back up ruck are virtually the same age. Seems very strange to me given there have been plenty of "cheap" options available through the draft ever since Strachan was pulled from the Bendigo Football League.

I could guarantee Flynn Plenty or Joe Pike for example would have been better options IMO if we're looking to develop a future lead ruck. Currently the SANFL ruck division looks to be Forward/ruck Toby Murray or top up Saxon Evans from the Willaston FC until Strachan is good to go.

Exactly, as I stated he played ruck for the Claremont Colts before coming to the notice of recruiters as a Key Defender at the Nationals...that's what got him drafted, not the fact that he played ruck at the lower level.

Played in defence every game in the VFL this season.

The idea isn't quantity. The idea is quality.

29 next year, All Australian caliber player with 200 games experience. Right now our only defender with over 100 games is Rory Laird who has played in the back line 4 games in the last 5 seasons.

You'd need to offer him a long term deal to get him away from Melbourne, and would we do that for a 29yo in an area weve got some strength in ??

Draft / trades this year the priorities should be (in no particular order) imo:
1. Elite mid
2. Lead ruck
3. Small forward
4. Developing ruck

I would accept NWM as meeting the criteria for 1. Draper is not good enough for 2 and Im not sure he ever will be, and the price we'd have to pay isnt worth the risk.

Sure. Beauty is he is an unrestricted free agent so it would only cost cap - not draft/player capital.

3 year deal no worries - he would be playing at age 29,30,31.

Really depends on how Cumming fits in. As far as HBF go - I would only have Hinge ahead of him (and thats just due to Age).
