no if i meant motor sport i would have said it. You wwere wrong by jumping at shadows instead of thinking what i meant compared to the relevance of Port power. which is not a motorsport team are they. So you were never right.
Easy to say now after youve been called out, and only have Mostyn as back-up

You have to be on the field of battle - participating - to be in the team.

Nicks isn't in the team for instance, even though the coach is obviously important.

It's why they have to have a separate award for the manufacturers, because they're not in the team.

Neil & Buzz walked on the moon. Not those NASA guys

Another perspective….. Sport is played by amateurs- sportspeople. As soon as you get big bucks involved it’s an industry and the paid individuals are workers/employees, cogs in the machine, just like any other industry.
E.g. local footy club player = sportsperson, AFL player = employee/worker, ditto track day at the Bend vs Supercars

Ah no, not quite.

When Max Verstappen comes into the pits he doesn't jack the car and change his own tyres. He doesn't change his gearbox after practice.

The fact is, Max doesn't race on the weekend without his team. He can even turn his own car on without them.

So when one driver hops out and another one hops in?…

Andrew McLeod didn't drive the team bus to the 1997 grand final either.

Sure, it was important that the team made it to the ground. Wouldn't have won if we hadn't been there. But Vinny the bus driver wasn't on the dais.

McLeod didn't administer the painkilling injection in his knee himself either.

Wow, youve missed this completely.

Without the team on the day Max barely gets in his car let alone wins. Motorsport may have been a "rock up and mechanic on your car and then drive it" sport in the 50s but even then.....

Its ridiculous to think its not a team sport.

Backroom staff are important

But they're not in the team

They're backroom staff

We wouldn't have won jack without Blight but his Games Played tally for Adelaide is still zero.

I don't understand?

Players are players. They're in the team.
Players who come off the bench are players. They're in the team.

The guy massaging their calves while they're off isn't a player. He's not in the team.

The mastermind who put the playing list together isn't a player. He's not in the team.

Wasn’t the original premise that Motorsport isn’t a team sport?

Engineers and mechanics play an active role during a race

So do doctors and coaches in sports like AFL

I think Drugs Are Bad Mackay? makes a good case that you can't class motorsport as a team sport because of the engineers, mechanics and all the other people involved with making the car run.

But there are still two drivers/cars per "team" entering the field and there are limited team tactics. Does that make it a team sport? Probably more so than golf as an example

I think you'll find that clubs do give coaches and gameday staff medals when they win flags such is their importance. That said, a footy side can play a game without coaches and even doctors. These days you cant go racing at almost any level above karting without a team behind you.

The fact there is a teams championship in motorsport probably tells you its a team sport.

I guess the question is whether the Constructors Championship is actually equivalent to a team championship win (eg AFL Premiership) or whether it's more like the Jock McHale Medal / AFLCA Coach of the Year
