Back by popular demand. However...

There has been some aggro from publishers of articles in recent months about sites that copypasta their content onto other sites, particularly the paywalled ones, which could lead to fines and whanot for those that do it. Apparently there are copywrite laws for these things. As a result we can no longer have full articles reposted here, so if you come across something then please refrain from nabbing the whole thing and just post the link. Quoting a paragraph or two and linking the source is fine however, just don't get greedy.

Here's the updated site-wide rule: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/please-read-re-copyright-posting-newspaper-articles.1389553/

Here's an example of what you can do:

"If West Coast was the gold standard for how to operate, then Fremantle's arrival into the AFL in 1995 could be viewed as a series of cautionary tales.

Despite eight wins in that debut season, a series of poor recruiting choices meant they didn't play their first final until 2003."

If they believe that us not making finals until 2003 was solely due to "a series of poor recruiting choices" then I have a bridge to sell them.

Thanks for your understanding.

Surely that the the best possible outcome, fly interstate and disrupt training schedules to not have a warm up game sounds pretty good for Freo

I'd prefer they play in miserable conditions with every possession contested.

Yep. A 54-49 scoreline with a record high tackles and ball-ups. A tight scoreline the whole game so they can't rest players or take their foot off the gas. Continuous rolling stoppages that would exhaust a rugby foward pack.

Llordo not buying into the freo hype at all

He is usually pretty measured

Think we ended up burning him a couple years in a row with the thought that "We should eventually get good with our list profile"

So I can see why he's gone that way, does put in the caveat that we could embarrass him, so does recognise the talent on the list.

One of my worries for 2025, when it come to winning the premiership, is that we don’t have a clear and obvious top 10 player in the league.
It’s pretty hard to win the flag without one I reckon.
Normally the premiers have at least one out and out superstar that there is no debate about. Neale, Daicos, Cameron, Dusty, Petracca etc from the recent premiers.
We had it with Fyfe for years of course, but the rest of the side was shit for most of his peak.

Hayden Young is the most likely to make it into that range on our list but his interrupted start to 2025 is not ideal. While Serong is a great player, not sure he’s a generational talent. Bolton could be a wildcard if he hits his peak Richmond level of form.

Probably not there yet, but if Treacy shows similar improvement to last year he’d be getting right up there

I don't think that's a determinative thing though.

What we do have is:
  • a powerhouse midfield with the capacity to improve
  • 2 of the most exciting and enjoyable players to watch in Jackson and Bolton
  • the unstoppable progress of developing youth on our side
  • an ethos driven by broad leadership which has made the side hungry

Treacy could win the coleman and either Young or Serong could win the Brownlow this year. I wouldn't be too worried about Young. He has done a fair bit of work before being injured.

Serong finished 4th in the Brownlow and AFLCA. He had a better 2024 than Neale.
