The Short hate is coming from ex-owners who still have scars. Yes he can be a butcher at times and yes he is playing in a poor side, but the biggest thing for me is Rioli going. Rioli averaged 23.3 touches, 4 marks and 1.5 kick-ins last year, they need to be distributed. If Short adds an extra 2-3 touches and 1-2 marks he'll be back in the 90s, which is fine for D6 in the medium-term. Re-assess during the main byes.

He injured his calf last year and missed a few weeks (one week was a bye), who knows if that had a lasting impact. A sore calf when your one job is to run and kick off half back isn't ideal.

He's worth a punt at $442k for me, worst case you get an 85 average (which is what he averaged last year if you remove the game he did his calf in the first quarter and was subbed off).

What's your thoughts on SDK .....will he be the go to Ruck

Didn't he have an off-season operation ? .....would it be fair to assume he's being managed back to full fitness ...hence the 50% CBA"s ??
It is pretty obvious that SDK and Blicavs are in a time share arrangement in the ruck.

Throw in Stanley and Conway lurking on the scene it is a definite no go with SDK.

Feel like the game vs Collingwood made it obvious. He scored most of his points while Richmond were in the game. Nothing early or late when Collingwood were in control.
You could use the other argument that Short missed out on a lot of points due to missing out on kick ins as Collingwood was very accurate with their goal kicking.

The question is whether Richmond can stop teams kicking accurately to make it worthwhile with Short.

We can compare scars at the end of the season, enjoy 😜

The 'it'll be back there a lot' logic doesn't really bear out.

The top defenders tend to come from teams that win a lot. When their team has control so it's easy to repel the attacks that do come. You don't get points for watching the ball sail over your head through the big sticks.

I have owned Short before, I'm not tempted this year

Dear & Lewis were both tbc return date last time I checked so not expecting them back in short term

While I do think Sicily will have some stints forward I’m expecting (hoping) Battle to be used up forward also at times

Big Chol will play there with the smaller brigade they also have Gunston Weddle & Ramsden as taller options so Sicily will be more horses for courses but all just speculation for now

Clearer picture in round 0

Either or I think there is value in his starting price but defs not a must have imo
McCabe a chance to play forward. Question is, how do Hawks fit Sic, TB, JB, Frost and Scrim in to the back six. All quality players but man that's tall.
I've had Sic in almost every draft of mine so far. 110-115 player when freed up to intercept.

As a North fan, it’s rare to see teams kick insanely accurately when winning easily. They tend to just pepper the goals & half the dominance is locking the ball in so the shit team can’t get it past the wing

Surely Sicily over Frosty at least is a much more reliable defender interceptor & distributor out of the backline

Too good a player Mitchell will always want him in the game imo

Lots of questions only wants me to back him more as many will be cautious on selecting him.

Gets to play with freedom this year can only be a good thing

Hawks have a good list & great depth that’s for sure

Frost and Barrass can't go forward as far as I know. Battle and Sic might play cameos there at times. But I reckon the captain plays his best role and gets back to elite intercepting in 2025. Weather Trash in Sydney this week. Hawks might go with a mosquito fleet forward line this week.

Would you say it's a Sinn?

Who should go here? I have 629k but would prefer to not spend it all on Luke Ryan if I have a decent alternative.

Was Max Holmes but would prefer someone without the early bye. Short? NWM?
I’d still pick Whitfield over those players.

Now, I've just listened to the full Scott interview ....and the grab I posted above is not a true reflection of what he said

I've gathered long-term they see SDK as a key DEF player .....however, I also got the impression playing in Ruck, whilst not his longterm position, would be good development for Sam and GEEL

Obviously Conway is their designated ruck ....SDK a fill-in until Conway is fit to play

Did you hear the bit about 'Danger, Stewart and Holmes may be our best inside mids but is there another position that would best suit the team' badly paraphrased but the gist...

It's hard picking GEEL players

I'd be happier spending an extra $60k to up Short to Hinge to be completely honest.

Short absolutely ****ed me last year after I had the same theory that Richmond backline will have plenty of the ball yet the campaigner still couldn't score more than 70.

Short is very much on the never again list and even if he was 110+ this year I'm still not touching it.
