**** me dead, someone actually had a good idea in this thread rather than let's spend our money on Tom De Koning just because we have cap space 🤣
Every time I have to watch Ryan fumble and flop around in a Richmond jumper, it takes years off my life

Yeah but don't want to watch TDK on $1.5m get slapped in the ruck contests every week either.

Plus he will be 30 by time our recruits are 22.

These are the exact type of players we should be able to target now. The guys who are not getting games in their early 20's because a club like the Hawks has gone out and filled up with a load of mature players from other clubs. You just need to be confident they are not hacks. Cats, Hawks, Pies have all done this, now Crows just brought in a load of mature talent. There will be others. Find these Nankervis, Houli, Grigg types that will be lurking on lists out there 3-4 years into their careers who will be super keen to move for regular first team footy. Don't overdo it but at least 2-3 of them would be good.
North as well
They have brought in guys like Parker for example who will ultimately push out a younger player to try and make the team more competitive with his experience

Prime time to be looking for guys who kicking the tyres of guys with 20 - 50 odd games but have been pushed out but still show promise and trying to lure them over with the prospect of getting AFL game time

Daicos will be better than Neale, I'd argue already is. Reid miles off prime Fyfe.
Was talking more in the sense of the potential of both players and a similar best case outcome

Even Daicos as Ablett is a very fair comparison with size and skill set and Ried and Fyfe seems like the best match for me

So in my eyes if you are taking one outcome over the other I would prefer potentially having a prime Fyfe over a prime Ablett

Reckon I'd go the opposite tbh. And then 1 is basically already at that level and the other is a 2nd year kid with massive hype

That’s fair enough
Although I do feel sorry for you since you are wrong :moustache:

Both 2 Brownlows, and then 2 flags & 2 GF's vs 1 GF where bloke choked shots at goal. I'll take the skilled player over the bigger bodied butcher any day

Fyfe over Ablett??

Season 2 Wtf GIF by Parks and Recreation

I love Fyfe but it’s not close, GAJ won 3 coaches mvp to Fyfes 0 and 5 Leigh Matthew’s trophies to Fyfes 2. Ablett was undisputed best player in the league (when not injured) from probably 2007-2013/4.

All true but I’m looking more at the type of player both are

Ablett insanely skilled midfielder but in terms positions of field it’s either midfield or small forward and you don’t really need to think about structurally changing your line up wherever he plays unless you want to run a hard tag but that’s also with another small mid

Now we have Fyfe and due to his size he demands a bigger run with player and if he pushes forward he need a keg position defender put on him due to his aerial marking ability so structure wise if he is on your side coaches can use him in more ways

It also comes down to how many similar players in the league
I know Ablett is definitely the best in terms of the type of player he is but if we are looking at small/medium mids almost every side has at least very good one to elite one

But if you are talking about those hybrid monsters there is probably only 5 or so in the league at any one time

I think you forget how good a forward Ablett was and how strong he was that he played like those hybrid monsters despite his size. His ability one on one is probably only matched by Dusty when playing one out in forward line.

He is the best player of the 21st century and I’m not sure it’s close between him and the next bunch in Dusty/Judd/Buddy. Fyfe is quite clearly another rung down from those 3.

And then had the audacity to call me wrong. What a dumb campaigner ey?

Ah damn, knew saints had offered him stupid coin but missed him re-signing.

Still go hard in 4 years. Tigers were so desperate for him in his draft year.
FA in 4 years. Let our guys develop and make us an option

Ablett snr kicked most his goal playing on the wing. The guy is way above anyone in my lifetime.

Shit bloke though.
