So, you're saying that during the five years of our rebuild, we mostly beat the really bad teams, but didn't beat the good teams?

Were we rebuilding in 2023 / 2024? Sloane came out in 2023 and said the expectation was finals. Club came out in 2024 saying the same thing.

Are we still rebuilding in 2025 because we refuse to use the F word?

Why have you targeted my post to moderate and not the post I responded to? Or the many others discussing Nicks?

And if you haven’t clued on yet, I don’t take kindly to your attempt to moderate my posting nor do I give a **** about your opinion. I’ll post what I want to post, use the ignore button if you don’t like it.
You had me on ignore you keep saying so assumed you couldn’t see my post (I also responded positively to your posting in recent days without any feedback from you furthering that belief). We have a new exciting season where big things are expected and likely to occur. Doesn’t that get you more excited? I just find wallowing in the negativity of the past - esp when issues have been done to death already with nothing new to add - doesn’t do a lot to aid happiness. Everyone is different I suppose.

But OK, that’s fair enough, whoever can talk about Nicks from years ago and I will stay out (not read) the discussion. and I will stay in the 2025 lane and talk about that.

My gut feeling is we will come out with a smoking 5-1 (4-2 at worst) start and be the talk of the town. We all know what non finals mean this year

What surprises me is that we haven't actually been too bad against the top teams considering our finishing position on the ladder.

If you take the top 4 from 2023 and the top 4 + premiers Brisbane from 2024 we have actually done reasonably well.

Our record against these teams over the past 2 years is 5 wins, 10 losses and a draw. 6 of those 10 losses have come by 11 points or less. We certainly have had the ability to match it with the top teams over the past two years.

Our issue has been our record against average teams.
Yep, 2023 felt like we could realistically beat anyone, that third qtr vs Pies at G was about the best footy I had seen from any team for the year,. A handful of losses against top 4 teams - mainly away and with injuries and/or normal umpiring issues - we looked good, and since then our team should be 20% better this year with additions and the maturity of squad and some elite individuals talents like Rankine and TT

2025 - I actually think top 4 isn’t out of the question, esp with our soft draw for a nice change. Lions, GWS and Hawks do all look good but can’t see why we would fear any other finalist from last year - Sydney, Bullies, Power, Cats, Blues

The issue is that it's still the same Mathew Nicks. His coaching history is extremely relevant and is completely linked to our success in 2025.

One thing you will notice is that there is very little discussion around Lachlan Murphy this offseason. People aren't less negative on him in 2025 - his shitty AFL football for the past 4 years is still woeful - it's just that he now shouldn't impact our 2025 form. Since he has been dropped from the leadership group, hasn't been training with the 1's and didn't play in the Brisbane preseason game its obvious he has been delegated to the 2's and should be only used in an emergency.

Winning a 3rd of games is not doing reasonably well in my book.

But agree we have done poorly against teams around or below us

Basically we have performed worse overall than we should have... which is on the coaches.

I did have you on ignore, but guess what? You can put posters on ignore and off ignore, it’s really easy.

I don’t care what you find, don’t you get that yet? And stop bringing up bullshit posts about happiness, you know nothing about our lives outsides of Big Footy.

Posters were discussing Nicks, Mostyn in his typical fashion tried to diminish criticism of Nicks which is what I responded to.

Yes I think we are in for a big year but to me the biggest handbrake is Nicks, I don’t rate him as a coach and think he’s an idiot. That’s not going to change until he stops making stupid decisions. Naming Milera over Nank with is another example.

I would say we have significantly underperformed.

Surely you would agree?

For me it shows that we aren't off competing with the very good sides. We had the talent to match them, and we are closer to success than a 5-10-1 W/L suggests.

The top teams have phoned it in against us in the past I reckon. They keep us at arm's length. Win the game. Do just enough, nothing more. Gives us a false impression of how far away we are.

Not sure about that, you can do it once.... but we seemed to be able to do it on a relatively consistent basis.

I think it says more about the fact we haven't been able to dictate the play, particularly against teams who sit numbers behind the ball

I’d have to check, which I won’t, I wonder how many of these close losses are us coming from behind when we finally played attacking footy only for us to fall short?

Could also be the clubs putting the cue in the rack once they’ve built a decent lead.

Brisbane and Collingwood games in recent years have always been pretty close.

Port games typically are anyway so they dont count, Sydney have belted us around a fair bit aside for Post-Gate

The rumour on Peatling was his and Cummings GF's are besties, so once Peatling decided to leave GWS they were all into Peatling to come to the Crows since Cumming had already decided to play here.

Not to say that was the only reason why he moved, but there were still some links there apparently that helped influence his decision to pick us.
I reckon Peatling had a look at our midfield and thought he would get the best opportunities here at the Crows.

He looks a shrewd pick up and has had a great pre season, I'm looking forward to see what he can do in the midfield this year.
Hopefully he continues to hit the scoreboard also

So we were arrogant to Day, but not the others?

Or were we arrogant to everyone but the others didn't care?

Arrogance is often in the eye of the beholder too. I used to play cricket with a bloke who'd spent some time playing in the UK and loved a name drop and relating anything he could back to "when I was in the UK". Everyone loved the guy and would froth over his stories. I found him as charming as a fart in an elevator.

It makes sense if we're trying to recruit someone we'd focus on selling the best things about being here. Some would potentially find listing all your best features arrogant. That said, we do have tremendous form in being arrogant so who knows.

Nah, just another Adelaide Board fallacy...

Will Day was always going to hard to shake loose from the Hawks given his family history (grandfather) A legend of SA footy Robert Day who finished his career with the Hawks winning a then VFL Premiership.

Wasn't from the Adelaide board

Came via a media article

Is it outrageous to think that Will Day said no because of our arrogance? Not really.

Was the rumour created because our own CEO had publicly come in the media and said this about our club 11 months before Will Day signed - “What did I find (on arrival in March last year)? The impression I got, especially from people at the AFL and the industry, was that this was going to be a broken club … a bit of an arrogant club" - possibly.

Even without the family links, if you take away all bias, as a young player would you rather be at the Crows or the Hawks? If I had no internal bias and wanted to win a flag, I know where my chips would be going. When you're at the Hawks walking past 4 premiership cups that start with the year 20... I could see how a sales pitch on the benefits of the AFC might seem a little... misguided.

We also had our football director tell members to support another club.

So you have to wonder how we were operating when recruiting players
