With Josh Carr taking the reins in 2026 we are going to start seeing some changes in the team in which I think have already started from round 1.

I think a major part of our collapse in round 1 vs Collingwood were a direct result of a modified game plan which the players struggled to implement. I get we all want to blame Ken for the loss but I have heard in the media that Port were playing a new style of gameplay in that game. I don't think they envisioned that it would fail the way it did. I think Josh implemented this and the players couldn't adapt to it. I'm not buying the team wasn't ready, or unfit etc. We don't have the luxury of being the standout team like Collingwood were in 2010 when they adopted their transition.

The gameplan against Richmond was vastly different to that of previous seasons. We rarely bombed inside 50 and we hit up targets. Our hand might be forced with a lack of quality talls but we're definitely evolving. I think Josh want's to hit more targets up, play a faster transition game, and hit up SPP as a one on one target. Gold Coast are doing this very well from what I've seen where King is being hit up as a one on one target. They seem to be holding some players inside fwd 50 whereas we still don't do that, but we are using SPP as a one on one hit up.

The decision to play Moraes was partially initiated by Carr, as in the past, Mcentee, and Atkins would have gotten the nod from Ken for stability and familiarity. I could be wrong, and while I predicted that Moraes would come in, it certainly wasn't a 2024 decision.

Willie Rioli went into the midfield and it was revealed later that he asked if he could go into the midfield and Josh Carr said that he could. This is the first time I'm aware that he has been inserted into the mid.

The transition is already beginning. There will be some teething problems, but I think as we move on we need to hold Josh more accountable for the ongoing performance. I see no benefit to Ken continuing to push his gameplan given Josh will need to have the team in coordination in 2026.

I'm expecting some big changes in the forllowing weeks with a steady transition. I expect us to play a tight defense against a strong offence in Essendon but transition hard like the Crows did to them. Expect a hard tag on Merrett.

Has anyone else seen any changes to structures thus far?

Generally people say "wait until a player has 50 to 60 games under his belt before you judge him".

When the likes of Burgoyne, Mead, Jones, Berry, Moraes, Evans, Sinn, Lorenz and Lord have that experience, band feel like they 'belong' at AFL level, we'll have a bloody good side.

I forgot to mention, I see Adam Kingsley in Christian Moraes. One can only ****ing hope.

I'm Bullish on Burgoyne, NWM 🙏, Berry, Moraes, Sinn after last week. The others haven't inspired me thus far.

Boak is actually playing some damn good footy, don’t think there’s a chance in hell he gets dropped.

At some stage he might. Depends if Carr is preparing between short mid and long term

Depending on whether they’re trying to get him to [emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] games. Not sure that’ll ever happen again.

I see Carr as the sort of guy who would drop a player on 399 in a grand final if it wasn't the best fit. Still think Croad was a mistake in '08. Fortunately Hawks won.

Liking what I'm seeing thus far. Another 1st gamer in Cochrane, another potential as emergency.in Lai. This would not have happened in 2024.

I'm hoping we play Soldo and SPP as one on one contests.
