I meant more your view on the side rather than Voss. I think even regular joes have a better view than some gambling company floggo.

I'm on the same page: I think Voss is a good coach, just hasn't delivered yet.

Like all coaches needs support to build his list. His forte is toughness and contests, I think he's less good at fringe development and bargains. Give him a Fagan-style "nice guy" assitant who builds up the skills of the second and third tier, and someone to bring in MSD bargains and left field projects.

So same as the list: the coaches and admin need all the pieces, not just the king pieces.

I think OP is gloating a bit. If Voss fails and is sacked that's on the board and coteries. You've had several promising coaches who fell over I think because they didn't have the resourcing around them.

I think Voss is a rubbish coach, but agree with your overall point in that you have to give them every chance before going down the sack & restart point.

For teams with Carlton’s list profile, things are never as bad as they seem (as opposed to say North, West Coast or Richmond who have or will be stuck in the doldrums for extended periods).

Port probably the best most recent example.

0-5 in 2022 after 5 rounds. Recovered to 10-12.
Prelims the next 2 years.

Obviously huge issues with Kenny in that time, so wouldn’t surprise me to see Carlton do similar. Can’t see how they get past the final hurdle with Voss, but they definitely aren’t in the blow it up, David Noble territory.

Rejigging a couple of players in the bottom 2-3 of the best 23 does **** all. **** all for the players (doesn’t allow them to develop their roles), **** all for the team (doesn’t really put any pressure on players 15-19 or even higher who aren’t performing).

No selection statement from Voss. I think even dropping McGovern would have been a reasonable statement.

There was nothing wrong with doing due process but the ultimate aim is to get the best candidate.

So there’s no point doing “due process” just for the sake of it (or in this case to appease the members/media)if it meant you risked putting the best candidate off side .
Which inevitably occurred.

Anyways be interesting to see what the blues do for the next coaching selection process as virtual same scenario will exist should (very likely) Voss gets tossed and Carlton’s management sound out the current and easily best readily available candidate in Longmire .

So does the club approach Longmire which 100% they will and might even have already done but then demand he go through “due process”?

Once Ken Hinkley is done at Port this season, I Reckon 2 or 3 clubs will look at him as a head coach.
